LOUD music

LOUD music - 08/17/2017 12:12 AM

I don't know what the deal is...maybe I'm just "old". The cafe at out little resort was having a private party and it was fine from about 8pm until around 11:30. Then, somebody turned up the volume about double. We could feel the downbeat in our unit. I really wouldn't have cared had they just kept the party going at the level they had had it going. What's up with that?

Doesn't surprise me at all. On the island where I live that happens all the time and the music goes on until 4 or 5AM. The music is so loud you can hear it inside a house with the windows closed 3/4's of a mile away.

The offenders have no regard for their neighbors and the police won't do a thing even though the offenders are in clear violation of an "excessive noise ordinance".

As I said, I really didn't mind it until late when they doubled the volume. I did go up and ask them to turn it down and was just told to "go away".

A brief history of reggae music, and the tradition of what the islanders play for parties today includes the introduction of large PA systems into the West Indies.

The concept has never left and is the way of the islands today. As early as the late 50's, the new technology made it to the islands and brought people in to town, the beach or wherever the music was going to be. It was a major coup back in the day and nobody has let go.

I remember staying at the Liberty Inn on Simpson Bay one quiet Sunday night. The restaurant next door had 2 sound systems going, full blast and not a customer in sight. When I went to ask why, I was told the music was loud "So the customers would come in". This was 11 pm. No dancing ladies, smelly bar, I am pretty sure it didn't work

Even when I was young, I did not care for loud music. Only perc. of getting older is that some of us can remove our hearing aids to minimize the annoyance. Somewhere along the line music quality was replaced with music volume.

I know it's a smart remark but call GEBE they are running out of reasons to cut off the electric

Tom, I know what you mean. I still enjoy going to concerts all summer long and after about 5 minutes of the real loud stuff, I take my hearing aides out and listen to the music at a more reasonable volume. Works every time. It is the only time when those with me wish they had lost some of their hearing.
