Thanks for this information, I know from past experiences that St. Martin has a large influx of island hoppers and other natives from surrounding islands and people living on boats and the actual count of people dead and/wounded will rise. I know this from talking with island natives who live there and tell me that from previous hurricanes that the actual number was higher but some of these people were gone and were swept into the sea.

My understanding is that the number of deaths will be much greater than what is actually reported, as illegals aren't registered on the island and therefore won't be officially counted.

Would they really not report someone's death just because of their immigration status?

I took it as they won't be officially counted because if they just vanish (swept out to see/ die in rubble that ends up in the landfill without being discovered) they won't be counted because no official record exists for individual......for all anyone knows they just illegally went to another island (or back to their country of origin)
