St Martin in August

St Martin in August - 11/19/2017 10:29 PM

I know August is in the middle of hurricane season and I know what happened this year with Irma and the other storms. But if there are no storms in the Caribbean at that time how is the weather normally? We have been to St Martin 15 times but never that time of year.

It's really not the middle of hurricane season. It starts in August, very slim chance, September/October is the heart of the season. The weather is a little hotter and little more humid if that's even posssible

The Caribbean hurricane season is from June 01 to November 30th. The more active part is usually from August to the beginning of November, however there have been a couple of hurricanes in July. We were there when Lenny (I think that was the name)came through in mid November of 99 and I think Luis in early July around 1996. There are a couple of good hurricane sites that can give you a heads up with pending storms.

September 5th and we were on vacation and spent the whole month off the Island because our first home was okay and there was no power. Power came back till in December. However this time it's much better in terms of early return of power but not Government wise.

Technically yes, but insurance companies do not require boats to be hurricane ready until August 1 to November 1.

Well regardless of whether it’s middle of hurricane season or if it’s the first of hurricane season I just wanted to hear from someone who lives there or has been there several times at this time of year to comment on the weather!!!

My husband and I have been on the island for Aug and Sept for the last 10 years or so. A little quieter than in season but we like that aspect. Restaurants are open all of Aug. but many close for Sept. As Sail to Wind says it is a little bit hotter and humid, but not terrible. It is an island after all, and you get good breeze most of the time. It actually is one of our favorite times to be there.
