A couple of Questions

A couple of Questions - 07/21/2018 12:53 PM

First, hello everyone glad to be back. It has been a quite a while since I have posted--mainly due to password issues. However, I having been reading constantly.

I still visit at least once every year except last year due to Irma. Those of you who remember me may remember that I usually stay in a villa in Terres Basse. However, after reading so many of Carol Hill's postings on Beachside Villas, I had finally booked a villa for last November. Then Irma hit. Now, I am planning my first trip back where I plan to split a month trip between Beachside Villas and Terres Basse. This leads me to my couple of questions:

1. While in Terres Basse, we usually like to make short trips to Starz Casino, before calling it a night. Has anyone heard when or whether they plan to rebuild?
2. Has anyone stayed in a villa in Terres Basse, since Irma hit? If so,can you tell me what villa and provide your overall opinion of it and the general state of it and Terres Basse inside the gates?

TIA

Can't talk about villa in Terre Basse, but Starz casino is still a wreck last I heard/read. The casino in Maho is almost open.

Starz Casino was an absolute disaster area still, as of the end of June this year. I posted a couple of pictures of it in one of my trip reports this year. No idea about Terre Basse.

Hope you enjoy Beachside!!

Thanks Carol and Norm. I do hope that Starz or some one else build a casino on the property as it was perfect for a quick run to lose a couple of dollars before shut eye. We do visit Casino Royale at night from time to time, but Starz was closer especially if it had rained and flooded the road at the golf course between Maho and Cupecoy. It seems that I had read a thread where someone stayed in Terres Basse. I just do not remember who. Iwill go back and look at your pictures again for those of the Starz area.

As far as I know, they are going to rebuild Starz, but I have no idea when. I have more pictures of Starz than those that I posted, if you want more pictures, send me a PM..

Lossie and Tom Price stayed in Terres Basses in June. They are on the Facebook groups. Unfortunately, I don't remember their screen names here. I'll send them a message on FB to check in here.

We stayed in Terres Basses for 16 nights in a stand along studio, Casa Bamboo, beside a villa. It was big enough for us and had a view of Simpson Bay. We enjoyed our stay there but its a long way from Orient. It was 1 1/4 miles to Plum Bay, closest beach, so not walkable for us. We felt secure but did not stay out late at night. The roads are so dark and if you have followed the Daily Herald there was a rash of car hi-jackings around the golf course and leaving Copecoy area. In April 2 people were arrested but one released because of his age while police continue investing. I feel like Terres Basses is safe are but not either route to get there after dark. Latest we were out was 9:00 one night and we were both awful glad to see the guard house. If we liked late dining or night clubbing I would not stay in this area. We are early to bed and up at dawn type people so not going to be on the roads late. Hope this helps.

Thanks JazzGal and Cats2. I was wondering whether there was a lot of noticeable damage from Irma. We have stayed in various villas in Terres Basse for over 25 years. For our next trip, we are looking at Terasse De Mer.

We usually go out to dinner each night from Grand Case to Simpson bay and Maho. Also, we go down to the casinos in Cupecoy and Maho--usually after 10 PM. We have never felt unsafe or had a problem with safety. I do remember years ago that one night we with a group of friends stopped to help a couple that ran of the road. Pretty sure that we would not do that now. We appreciate the guard gates and security gates that wrap the properties.

Again, thanks
