Sorry about this question - 10/23/2018 03:55 PM

I have been getting mixed answers on if my cat needs a micro chip from u.s. to Sxm. Jet blue does not require it and they are the ones checking documents before trip. others say yes. I have not learned to navagate here as yet, so if this is not a question that should be posted. I am sorry. I am told people at airport in St.M do not even check, do not want to do anything that cat does not need. She is indoor and well taken care of... Never loose... thanks in advance. I can find the other forum where you can ask these such questions.

Even if the cat is only an indoor cat, GET IT CHIPPED. It takes a few minutes, the cost is minimal and provides so much peace of mind. Either at home, or especially with going out of the country, when the cat will be stressed, it COULD get away from you when it is in an unfamiliar place. Get it chipped. Period. Doesn't matter whether the airlines require it or not.

Correct. Cost is minimal Some rescues will do it fo $10 and many vets for $25 or less. Be sure to register the animal with the organization sponsoring the chip. This can be done online and will put the animal in at least one database.

Ok. Sounds good. JUst shocked its not a listed requirement when on jet blue countrys to go with animals. St.M. only requires health doc. rabies doc. thanks

I can tell you that it is very stressfuf for the cat.
They made us remove her from her carrier and carry her with us through Magnetometer.
She was extrememly frightened and agitated and could have gotten away from us quite easily.
Please do have her chipped.
And BTW, no one in SXM asked for her papers.

Get the chip. Its just a great insurance policy if cat gets away from you .

I agree, get her chipped. It's the airline that needs all the requirements fulfilled.

Ok thanks to all that replied. I would not be doing this, and have gone back and forth with it, but this will be our first time back other than repairs, and want to try and spend at least three of the ugly winter months we get here in Pa. Kitty is very attached to me, and thats just to long. Hope it works out, as my poor husband is not too happy about doing this, and the price to keep her under the seat is now up to 150;00 one way. ok, not telling my husband, and I book the ticket, so what he does not know will not cause to much stress...lol... leave it to the little woman. Men beware..

I brought a cat back from St. Maarten. You will have to take it out of its carrier, and mine got loose in the airport. I was lucky enough to catch her, but I got terribly scratched. Later, I found a leash thing that wrapped all around her body and she could not get loose, kind of like a thunder blanket. Check with your vet. Oh, yes, you might sedate her also.

I'm missing one of the few places where naked times on the beach and dancing at night exist, Chipping a cat?

Your Cat's microchip can’t locate her when she runs away but can be used to buy catnip at the grocery store and by the time the grocery realizes it was a cat purchasing the catnip the feline caper has used wit and paws to escape. Seriously the chip just has info about the owner to contact if the cat is lost.... rofl

There are GPS tracking collars for animals, perhaps this should be considered.
