Oyster Bay Resort area

Oyster Bay Resort area - 02/01/2019 01:06 PM

We are staying their for 2 weeks in May. I understand Busby's isn't open. Does anyone know plans for it. What restaurants are open on property or nearby. We will have a car for the first time, and I'm a bit apprehensive about driving. We just want to be able to get to Orient Beach without $25 taxi fare each way! Thanks for any restaurant or driving tips.

BZH Creperie is open, and an excellent choice for lunch or dinner.

I might be able to assist you with the driving, but it's really not that difficult from where you are staying. If you're primary destination is the Orient Beach area, then let's assume all your driving will be during the daylight hours (which I recommend). From the Oyster Bay Beach Resort (OBBR) you would go west for a very short distance until you intersect with Oyster Pond Road. You would turn right on Oyster Pond Road and head north for about a quarter of a mile before reaching the intersection that would cross over into French St. Martin. You want to bear to the right on what is known as 'Avenue du lagon' and follow that road. The BZH Creperie that GoKaye mentioned is about a half mile ahead on your left. For some reason this road changes it's name to 'Rue de Coralita' (Coralita Road) and you follow this for about two miles directly into the French Quarter (Quarter of Orleans). It will eventually come to a 'T' and you simply turn right on the main road which heads north to Orient Beach. 'Chili Peppers Sports Bar' (if that's still around) will be straight ahead when you reach this intersection. From here it's about another two miles or so until you reach the main entrance for Orient Village where you would take another right turn.

I would suggest not stopping after dark in or around the French Quarter. I've never had a problem, but just a recommendation that I've heard many times from others. I know this sounds a little complicated, but in reality it's quite easy. Just ask for a road map at the place where you are renting your car and that should suffice. Hope this helps.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! Hubby doesn't drive anymore and we don't usually drive after dark even at home. Spry but cautious seniors!

Dining is still limited, nothing happening at Busby's. Big Fish as of last week still said 'opening soon'. Only other dining option on site is Infinity within the resort. In addition to BZH Creperie is L'Oasis, both in Oyster Pond. Also heard but didn't check out that Quay Quest (sorry don't remember how it is spelled) also in Oyster Pond is open.

Actually it is Quai Ouest, and it's located in the Captain Oliver's compound on the right hand side as you go down the hill. Nadia has really done a great job with a simple pond front location. Been going there for quite a few years and have never had anything but great food. Very French in both food and atmosphere, just minutes from OBBR. Be sure to check out her facebook page.

at curve in road after LesBalcons is L’Oasis recently bought by Sol E Luna. Then a little further on left is BZH. Carole from LEstimenet in Grand Caseisnow there. Great full meals or pizza, crepes, galants.

As mentioned, nothing of Bubsy's, Island Pizza, Pier Grocery, or anything that was on the dock is there. Infinity restaurant is open at OBBR. Quai Quest is open in Captain Olivers complex. Across street from entrance to Capt O. is LaPause, serving breakfast and lunch. It's next to Columbus Hotel. MamaPizza is not open. L'Oasis is open and doing well. In same building, Bread N Butter is a very well stocked grocery and bakery. Has wonderful large, fresh croissants each morning, French bread, rotisserie chicken available during day. BZH is across the street with Carole as manager and server. A short distance down the road toward Lookout Point is a new Beach Bar and Restaurant called Mooba. Serves drinks, sandwiches, grill items. Has chairs and umbrellas.
