Now we have Karen!!!

Now we have Karen!!! - 09/22/2019 12:13 PM

...and another red "X" just off the coast of Africa. crazy As of now, Karen is 'just' a tropical storm, and around 4 days out from SXM. Hopefully it won't be an issue for SXM, but it's a long way away. As of now, tropical storm force winds go out 125 miles and Storm Carib says "The approximate Closest Point of Approach (CPA) is located near 17.9N, 65.3W or about 143.1 miles (230.3 km) from your location. The estimated time of when the center of the storm will be at that location is in about 55 hours and 59 minutes from now (Tuesday, September 24 at 4:06PM AST)."

Mercy. Be safe everyone!

Report from SXM government on Karen--Seems like another good night to stay in.

Rainfall: Karen is expected to produce total rainfall accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, possibly up to 4
inches in some areas. Increasing cloudiness with showers and thunderstorms are expected within the next
24 hours.

Most of the significant showers are expected from Monday night into Tuesday. Flooding and/or rockslides are expected in flood-prone areas and along hillsides. Residents and users of these areas are advised to be vigilant.

Winds: Gusty winds could accompany showers Monday night through Tuesday.

Seas: Swells up to 9 feet are possible, mainly along the southern coast, during the passage of Tropical
Storm Karen. These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Beach erosion is possible in vulnerable areas. Sea-
bathers are advised to avoid the ocean.

TS Karen moved a little east but still should keep on a north track away from SXM.
