La Samanna will not open this year - 11/07/2020 02:32 PM

Daily Herald story

So stupid. The French national authorities do not understand anything about St. Martin.

No not good at all, so how about the other hotels on the French side? Makes me wonder, and makes me plan for a plan B just in case. So far Le Petite has stated that they will be ready for us, and I would add that they have been fantastic to deal with and quick with responses to any concerns over all the potential border issues. There in two weeks, we hope.

First after Irma and now through COVID 19. Can’t France find any means by which to help as opposed to hinder St. Martin? Her people are dying a financial death and deserve so much more.

We only stayed there once years ago buy even back then while it was nice I thought not really worth the extra money. If you’re with another couple or two you could certainly rent a very nice villa for the same amount. Dutch said has plenty of other hotel and restaurant options.

We have never stayed at LaSamana. In fact, the closest we ever got to enjoying time there was a Sunday morning light brunch there in the early 70’s. When we were all done, two orders of coffee, juice and pastries set us back over forty dollars. Thank God we didn’t order full breakfasts......

Again, this was in the early 70s and that was a lot of money to two twenty-something kids. Never really felt the urge to go back after that but I will say, it was absolutely gorgeous there and brunch was beautifully served but just way too much money at the time for our rather thin wallets.

That's a lot of money now, for two old people with relatively comfortable wallets! I can't imagine what it costs now!

We were young and foolish back in the day. Today we’re just........ never mind.

We are also the couple who decided it was a great idea to take the ferry from SXM to AXA and then a cab to catch the boat to take us out to Scilly Caye at the suggestion of my former boss. Obviously as the ‘boss’ he earned a lot more than I did. He was correct in that the lobsters were incredible but by the time we got done it was probably the most expensive lunch we ever had in the Caribbean. The last time we went to Scilly we were staying on AXA and it was a lot less costly without all the extra fees involved. But it was still yummy. I wonder if Scilly survived the last few storms.

Todd--I understood that technically no hotel on the French side is allowed to accept US visitors. They were supposed to, as of November 1, but I think the situation in France changed it. Now perhaps Le Petite is technically a B & B and not a hotel and perhaps they are allowed to accept US visitors?

We are booked on the French side in June 2021 staying at Villa ChouChou. Hopefully the virus will be gone or at minimized so we all can get back to the island! Had to cancel our annual trek this year due to virus so were anxious to travel again!

Yeah, now I am wondering if we could have even stayed on the French side in January. It's all cancelled now, so a moot point for us I guess.
