Ciguatera safe fish?

Ciguatera safe fish? - 03/12/2021 09:06 PM

Dear all,
My wife and I will hopefully move permanently to our apartment (on the French side) early next year.
Assuming we will eat a lot of local fish, how could we minimise the risk to get poisoned by Ciguatera?
I.e. is there any up to date, French or Sint Maarten, information regarding which fishing waters that are quite safe - and are the local fishermen fully informed?
Any web-links regarding this issue are appreciated.
Kindly, Lars

I've always believed Daurade (Mahi), Wahoo, and Tuna to be Ciguatera-free. I never eat rock fish or reef fish. The only specific warning which I've seen in a few years has been about the invasive species Lionfish.

Dear all,

I found this warning poster: https://www.guadeloupe.ars.sante.fr/system/files/2018-07/VISUEL_CIGUATERA_DAAF_BATV4_cle048412.pdf

And yes, The Scuba Shop writes: “Fish you can eat: Dorado (also known as Mahi Mahi or Dolphin fish), Wahoo, all types of Tuna.”

Kindly, Lars
