Cooperation between both sides can only benefit all residents of the island.

At least this seems like a new start to a long ongoing process. Unfortunately, both sides of SXM are still strongly tied to their Mother countries, and unless those ties are completely severed, progress will be severely hindered by colonial bureaucracy.
