Good to get some business back to the island.

I think having SXM as a cruise DESTINATION rather than a origination port will be better for the Island economy....I would guess most passengers on the SXM to wherever cruises will land at the airport...shuttle to the ship...cruise.....get back to SXM ...shuttle to airport and bye bye...

Actually, I would very much disagree with you there in terms of the benefit to the island. Many people will go directly to and from the ship, yes, but whatever the percentage is that does extend on one or either end of the cruise will spend money in terms of lodging, food, transportation, etc., and each pax will spend MUCH much more than folks who are just in port for a day.

I would have to say that I am with Carol on this one. If I were taking the cruise there is no way that I wouldn't stay-- even a week on whichever end--or both, as long as I had that amount of vacation available.

Right on. I agree completly. Just the revenu from transportation to and from PJIA and cruise port will generate money for the locals.

I guess it depends on how many stay on SXM before or after the cruise...transportation costs to the ship, yes, will add income to the transport companies but little to the rest of the Island vs. a ship stop over where transportation cash is also a factor but a day in port adds much more...

We will see how many hang out before or after the cruise.....

boucharda--again, I respectfully disagree with your premise, that a day stop makes more for the island, but either one provides some welcome revenue for the island.

I know you disagree...along with others...but I am expressing my opinion...

Even though transport companies will make the initial money, trickle down economics will help whole island.
