Monday 04/26 - 04/27/2021 01:15 AM

Monday, Monday........a busy, busy day.

Coffeed and breakfasted here in our room as has mostly been our habit this trip, and this waking up at daybreak thing has just got to stop. Watched the early morning joggers and beach walkers from our deck.

So on to the big decisions of the day........What to do and where to eat? The two biggies......

Decided this was a good day to do some errands so off we went, but by the time we finally got around to leaving, J’s tradesman’s inner lunch alarm bell went off and when that happens, he needs to be fed.

Having heard so many good things about the Sand Box we decided to give it a try. It’s pretty much where Marty’s Dream Bar used to be at what was once Caravanserai, or Alegria, and possibly other names as well since this property has had such a storied past. It’s in the Morgan complex. A cute place with outdoor picnic tables and a very limited little beach alcove access.

We aren’t very adventurous so we opted for Blue Burgers and fries for lunch. The burgers were huge snd yummy and the curly fries were curly fries - what more can I say?! The waitstaff, what little there was of it, was grossly outnumbered by hungry eaters and service was extremely slow. They tried hard and a few times we actually saw them running with trays of food attempting to accommodate every one, to the point you had to feel sorry for them.

I would definitely go back but I would also hope they add a few more live bodies to their waitstaff numbers. The menu has a lot of options from burgers to sushi to coconut shrimp and so many other things and a whole menu of drink options, too. They also advertise lobsters though I didn’t see that on the menu. And you have to take your parking ticket upon entering the resort area through the Morgan gate but the restaurant staff will validate it and you park for free. They include the 15% SC and accept credit cards for charges in excess of $20.00.

After lunch we did some island errands before heading back to our pool which was calling us as the day was very hot when you were out and about. Visited with long time BSV vacationers at the pool and said our goodbyes to friends leaving tomorrow.

Dinner - such a decision. After deciding on the Bodega we actually ended up at El Zafiro, again. We had a lovely dinner of rack of lamb perfectly seasoned and cooked and to make the evening even nicer, we got to chat with some fellow TTOLers, Kathy and her sister both from Michigan. A pleasant ending to a lovely day.

I am surprised how active everyone is on their vacations. When we go we stay in Orient Village and never leave for 10 days. Our car generally sits the whole time and every place we go is walking distance. Of course, we spend 9am to 4pm on the beach every single day and then have dinner in the village. Although we have been tempted to see other things we are just so content and comfortable in the village that we never venture out.

Hi Pat and John -

Such a pleasure to finally meet you both at El Z. Really enjoyed our conversation. Hope you enjoy the rest of your vacation. 😊

Take care,

Cathy

We ate at the Sandbar twice and drinks once. The day we had lunch it wasn’t busy so didn’t notice an impact on service. In the evening the place had a lot of waitstaff which was great since it was fairly full. Hopefully your experience won’t be the norm. I ate a lobster tempura sandwich. They do have lobster on the menu although I don’t remember if I saw a tank.

Photo of menu in Sxm gallery. Don’t remember how to get url on my phone for image.

We enjoyed the setting and while I’m not much of a connoisseur when it comes to burgers, the blue burgers were yummy. We get them once in a while at home topped with all the usual plus blue cheese and bacon. I asked if they came with bacon and our waiter said no, but lo - when he brought them they had added a couple of slices of bacon as a special touch. He actually thanked us for our patience and apologized for the wait. Given more time I’d go back again for sure.

Beautiful pictures Pat! I just love the colorful paint colors at Sand Bar. We just might have to try El Zafiro for dinner next month. We’re staying in Beacon Hill, so it’s just short drive. Are they open every night for dinner?

As far as I know they are open every day/night for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I am not a foodie, Jo, but we have never been disappointed with any of our meals there. And it is so incredibly convenient for us.

If you go there I hope you and Marc enjoy. And don’t forget, if you go there for meals or drinks, chairs and umbrellas are complementary. We often go for breakfast and then spend the day on their beach.

Thank you for the informative reply Pat. We’ve dined at El Zafiro once before and enjoyed the beautiful view. I can’t recall the food, but I’m sure we liked it. Never a bad meal in SXM!
