My advice would be to pump the brake pretty firmly, and be specific about the unit that you are looking into and hopefully somebody has a specific review of the unit. I like the location, and while it has been a few years since I stayed there it is hard for me to believe that they have improved much. There are some private units that I hear are good, but in general I rule Sapphire out of any search for any extra nights we need.

A response based on CURRENT experience. We just stayed there for two weeks, end of April-May 8th. We have been owners there for over twenty years. There were times over those years when the above comments were correct. The condition of the resort and service level has changed significantly. The resort has been substantially restored and most of the problems with the building have been improved. The staff is very attentive and responsive. The pool is in excellent condition and very enjoyable. The onsite bar and restaurant is open with very good food and service and extremely low prices. We spoke with one couple staying in a villa and they were most pleased. The decision to go here is yours. We reserved again for next year without hesitation.

Aside from chicstersun and family, we have have met others on island who were staying at Sapphire in the past year and they were all pleased with the renewed efforts to bring Sapphire back to the once lovely resort it was known to be early on. I don’t know the room categories they had but they were pleased with their units and the property in general. The negative comments were justified a few years back but I’m not so sure they are any longer. And as he stated, the previous poster is very recently back from a good trip and he, as a long-time owner, has seen it all over the years. 😊😊

Re: Sapphire - 06/28/2021 07:25 PM

As Todd said the Villas we are looking at are

villa number 6

villa number 8

Villa number 10

But if anyone has stayed at any other villa that would also be welcomed
There seems to be about 5 others that could be available
Thanks

Comments and advice from those who have no recent experience with a property are meaningless and should be ignored. Sapphire is now an excellent resort in a prime location. Improvements over the past several years are dramatic. I own a villa for 2 weeks in February and with its proximity to the ocean, dipping pool and unbelievable sunsets, I feel it is one of the best properties on the island. Close to Porto Cupecoy, Jordan village and Mullet. Agree fully with comments by chicstersun.

I am out on helping on this but to those that might know, are the Villas the units that are ocean front?

Todd, the villas are ocean front. There are stairs in the villas, and some trade them when their knees can’t take them anymore.

I have owned at Sapphire for 20 years but have not stayed there for the past 10. Folks that have stayed there recently have generally been very pleased. I have stayed at a lot of different properties in St. Maarten and none are perfect. Having said that, you won't find a unit with a better view than a Sapphire villa (I have stayed in several) and I personally would not hesitate staying in one now. Just have realistic expectations (much like any other St. Maarten property).

Now I am curious to where this was rented from or listed, LOL. I need a couple nights in November!
The actual Sapphire building seems to have great bones if it would be taken care of, nice to hear that they seem to be doing that now.

My question is, how long will they continue to care for it? I understand that people are pleased now. But what is the timeframe that people have been happy? We stayed many many years ago and even back then, the property was run down.

It wasn't that long ago that Pelican was considered a dump and look at their transformation.......... Sapphire has been taking steps to improve over the past few years .......with Irma and Covid thrown into the mix. Hopefully they will continue and turn it back into the gem it once was.
