Damage to Rental Vehicle

Damage to Rental Vehicle - 08/02/2021 11:50 PM

Some of you may recall that I damaged the right front fender of my rental from Leisure. I paid for the rental with a Capital One Venture card, which covers collision. The damage estimate was under $500 so I told Leisure to just charge my card and I would work it out with Cap One. I submitted the claim on line. They came back with a request for additional information. Either the additional info didn't exist or I had already submitted the request the first time around.

I was just checking my junk folder and was pleased to find an email from them stating my claim has been approved for payment. The check is supposed to be mailed within 7-10 business days. I am a happy camper and pleased with how easy the claim process was.

Good info, sounds like a good card to have. I assume you declined the rentL company offered coverages? Did you also decline the liability? No company has confirmed to me at rental that liability is required to be paid by the rentL company but im usually in a hurry to quibble too long over what Ive heard to be true.

Having had a fender bender 18 months ago after paying for coverage for the first. This recent trip I paid again about $14/day for damage/liabilty. Pretty much doubled the price quoted which was cheap.

I beg your pardon. No reason to be nasty on this forum. Chill out. Liability can be a money grab for some companies and some not. Was just pointing out one company that I rent from that is honest with it as you did too but no need to make a derogatory remark to me.

And the original post was about credit card coverage of COLLISION damage. Liability was not part of the conversation until another poster mentioned it and then you put your plug in for Hertz, as you always do. You can chill out as well.

And to Linda, glad it worked out for you. I had a claim in the US a few years ago on a rental and had used my Cap One card. While the rental company was somewhat of a pain to deal with, Cap One came through and all ended well. Cap One is the only card I currently have that still offers this coverage.

I was not nasty. Just being honest.

bdeeley--most people have their rental car "guy" that they swear by. That does not make them a shill. Your "honesty" is often taken for nastiness..

But it bears repeating--LIABILITY insurance=in case you damage someone else's car, person or property. COLLISION insurance=damage to the vehicle you are driving. Difference insurance coverage altogether. Glad that Linda had a good experience with the coverage (after the initial BAD experience with the damage to the car...)

And I think this is a good place to end this one.
