Ferries from St. Martin / Maarten to St. Barts

Ferries from St. Martin / Maarten to St. Barts - 08/29/2021 11:41 AM

What is the current status of the two ferries to St. Barts -- the one from Marigot and the one from Philipsburg? Are there any Covid-related restrictions for Americans who want to travel to St. Barts for a few days and return to St. Martin / Maarten? Testing needed?

It’s unclear. Supposedly, you need proof of vaccination or a negative 72-hour PCR/48-hour antigen test. In practicality, I don’t know that anyone is actually checking.

Both Ferry Services are running, Great Bay Express from Philipsburg and Voyager from Marigot. Both their websites list the current Covid requirements for travel to St. Bart's. Links to both services are below.

B. Deeley,
Thanks! Looks like a vaccination card is all that is needed to enter St. Barts. Presumably, though, travelers would need a negative Covid test (administered in St. Barts) in order to return to St. Maarten. Is that correct?

Requirements, as I posted earlier, are unclear. In part, it depends on who, if anyone, is actually checking. If a test is required for reentry to St Martin from St Barth, the pharmacy a few hundred feet from the St Barth ferry terminal, does antigen testing,

AUC, It looks like if you leave and return to St Martin through Marigot that you don't need a Test at all, if you are fully vaccinated. Based upon this information, if it was me, I'd leave through Marigot and return through Marigot since I am fully vaccinated. If you do a round trip ticket with either service, it is significantly cheaper than purchasing 2 one-way tickets. I have posted the relevant information below and it is right from the Marigot Ferry's website.

Special HEALTH requirements between St Martin Marigot and St Barth (both ways), August 5, 2021 update:
• Proof of Covid Vaccination is Ok to travel
• For non vaccinated passengers (12 years and more), 2 conditions to respect to travel:
Covid Test (negative 48 hour antigenic or 72 hours Pcr)
and Compelling reason

I would also recommend that you check with both countries websites as they seem to be making changes at least weekly.
