Our Day Started With Breakfast at SMYC

Our Day Started With Breakfast at SMYC - 04/04/2022 12:03 AM

We started with breakfast at the yacht club what a great start to the day. My wife had eggs benedict and I had my regular eggs and bacon of course with 2 ceasars. Our plan this visit was to go to beaches and restaurants that would be new to us. It is very easy to stay with the places that you are familiar with and then your vacation is done. So today we decided to go to Plum Bay and Long Beach. Google maps said that if we went to La Samanna we could get on the road along Long Beach. Nope the road is gated. Plan B. So we headed up to, Les Terres Basses (I believe) only to find a gate house with a guard and I asked him if this was the road to Plum Bay and off we went. So we landed at Plum Bay first and then drove down to Long Beach. If you are looking for beaches to find peace and serenity these are for you. The first couple of pictures are Plum Bay and the others are Long Beach. We don't swim in the sea but Plum Bay is a rocky entrance and Long Beach is not. We then headed to the Bar Code for lunch. I had the cheeseburger and substituted homemade fries instead of regular and my wife had very crispy chicken wings with teriyaki sauce which was very good. My hunt for the best burger continues. Then we headed back down Rhine road to return to Flamingo. Well the new beach bar Kalatua on Mullet Bay customers are parking on the golf course road, both sides which effectively makes it a one lane road with 2 way traffic. There should be no parking allowed on this road and cars should be towed away.

Loving your dailies. It’s always fun to see the island through the eyes of someone else. Thanks for sharing…..🙂🙂

When we were young, our favorite beach was Long Bay. It was like we had a mile long Beach all to our selves. Towels, a cooler and the most beautiful view in the world. Great memories.

One of the few undeveloped beaches left on St Maarten.

Thanks for the reports. The parking situation at Mullet Bay is going to do nothing but get worse.

Thanks for the report and the pictures. We haven't been to either Long Bay or Plum Bay for years. Yesterday was Sunday, so Mullet would have been worse than normal for parking, but it is quite a shame that they allowed that developer to build there, with no parking, and also, nothing done on restoring the boardwalk, which I think we knew probably would be the way it went.

I think you mean "home fries" at Bar Code, since I think the 'regular' fries are home made. smile

The regular fries I had at Bar Code were much smaller than those pictured but very crispy and some of the best I have had. No idea if they were homemade or not, but they were GOOD!

The menu said cheeseburger with regular fries but on the side order menu it listed homemade fries. So I asked the waitress what the difference was and she said the fries that come with the burger were just regular fries and the homemade fries were hand cut and they were. So I substituted for the hand cut, they were a little soft but good.

OK, I stand corrected! Everyone has raved about the fries there, so I ASSUMED they were home made! smile

Bay Longue is our favorite but as we age the walk in seems longer and longer.

Bar Code does have two different kinds of fries. The regular fries are all smallish and regular in size. The look like that could be frozen but the are really well cooked, nice and crispy. The others are house made/hand cut or something like that. They are much thicker, but not quite as thick as steak fries and not uniform in size. The are incredible good!!

We’ve always enjoyed SMYC for breakfast. The eggs Benedict are really good and we both like the Bloody Mary’s. Plum Bay is a nice scenic beach and good for snorkeling because of the rocks. And that’s a reason why swimming isn’t pleasurable. Yet I see many people just walk on the rocks right into the water. One more thing about the beach, it’s very hot. Go on a windy day and you’ll find it more enjoyable. Ever since the new beach bar Kalatua opened on Mullet, parking along the golf coarse is horrible. Add big puddles on the road after a rain storm, and it’s almost impossible to drive through. Workers at the restaurant park there as well as diners who get picked up in a golf cart. I can’t believe St Maarten allows this. Time to figure out where to put all these cars that want to go to Mullet. And wait until the new Towers open!
