Royal Palm question

Royal Palm question - 06/06/2022 08:15 PM

Hi - we're used to the Royal Palm being almost all 2-bedroom units. We now see that there is a 1-bedroom option available. Is anyone familiar with this? Are they on the upper floors, for example? We could do either, and just wonder which would be preferable.
Thank you!

If all being the same cost, take the two bedroom which then gives you two bathrooms and I would guess more room!

They are not the same cost, with the 2 BR being a higher rate than the 1 BR. And it is for other family members, so still wondering about location, etc.

The one bedroom units are scattered among various floors. Who are you thinking about renting from? They should know what floor the unit is on.

It's booking points through Diamond's website. Doesn't say what floor they're on.

Call the resort Directly. Front desk will know which room numbers are one bed units and location.

We stayed in a privately owned one bedroom many years ago. It was huge! Bedroom is by the walkway. Unit was on an upper floor and located where the building turns at an angle. My understanding is that this is where all the one bedrooms are located on each floor - could easily be wrong. I second calling the resort and finding out for sure.

We stayed in a 1BR before the rebuild. I was told that all the 1BR units are in the middle of each floor all the way up. Our unit was. Don't know if this still holds true. We were very happy with the 1BR and did not feel it necessary to spend the extra cash for an extra BR if there were just 2 of us. Only difference I remember is that the balcony is from the LR and not the BR.

Many of the one bedrooms are now used by the housekeeping department for storage. We were there this past winter and that was the case. Still call and hear what they have available. They have a terrific view! Good luck.

My wife and I stayed in a privately owned one bedroom prior to Irma. My impression was that all the one bedrooms were in the center of the complex on floors directly above the pool. It was a great size for the two of us. The only downside was it had just one bathroom (we prefer one for each of us) and it was very noisy due to the crowd in the pool area and bar. May have been just that particular week.

toothdoc. What did you think of the units? Some are saying they are not as nice as before. Hoping that is not the case. We are renting a 1 BR next month. TY

Was curious so I called RP myself. The 1BR units are on the 3rd and 4th floors only. Directly in the center of the resort. Great location!

We loved the unit. No, they are not much different from the old ones, but the hurricane windows are terrific. The view is still marvelous and the service from the new Royal Palm was tremendously improved. They have many new innovations and all in all, we enjoyed being there for 5 weeks. We already have our reservations for next year. It's not too creative, but it's handy to everything, very well attended to, and we enjoyed it tremendously as did our adult family.

Thank you so much. We have always LOVED RP for so many reasons including location. I absolutely cannot wait to return next month. Two couples will be new to the island and two couples have been quite a few times before. Thanks for your input and any other tips/recommendations will be appreciated.

Hi. When you say that the service has improved, what about the food and service from the bar and restaurant? It was always horrible. It would be good news if that was better also.

Same owners, you know how it was before, I would not expect anything different unless they hired someone with a decent personality and skills to run it.

Is Barbara still there working at the lounge on the second floor (I think)? We always enjoyed a cocktail from her before a night out for dinner. Such a sweet lady.

Re: Royal Palm question - 06/08/2022 02:35 PM

Mia--from my understanding the lounge on the second floor is no more. A real pity. They put the timeshare sales office in there. Even when the service wasn't the best, that room had a really nice view of the bridge.

JD--yes, I know, I was just surprised about toothdoc's comment about good service, so was hopeful.

Thank you Carol. So sorry to hear that. That place kept my husband "occupied" while I was still getting ready for dinner. LOL That dark teak wood and breeze was so lovely and relaxing. A real vacation vibe.

I was told a daughter might be involved in the running or management of at least the pool bar. Sadly, IMHO, Barbara was not personable at all and was part of the problem.

Re: Royal Palm question - 06/08/2022 02:53 PM

Oh no ruralcarrier. Sorry to hear that. I only know what I know, but our experience with her was personable and friendly. She told us of her family, took pictures for us, etc. I can not speak for others, but that was just our experience. Although.... my husband is a talker and will engage with anyone. LOL

Re: Royal Palm question - 06/08/2022 04:03 PM

Yes, the large room on the second floor, formally the bar, is no more. The Roxxy, next door, wasn't that noisy at all, but the new bar across the street, called "Nothing Special", was really annoying.(Not so special)! But they closed promptly at midnight and the first couple of floors didn't hear it as much. But, the RP can't be responsible for that noise. They had been in touch with the owners of the bar, but no change while we were there.

Carol, we did eat lunch at the RP restaurant, and it was quite nice, but no dinners. As far as the RP service, it was really great, and any of our needs were taken care of within 15 minutes! Clean linen delivered to the door . Electricians and handymen also included in the 15 minute time frame, etc. Front desk was marvelous, etc. Really a pleasure. We hadn't been to SXM in 5 seasons and it was like coming home.

That also mirrors the service we had at R's sister resort Flamingo. Every need was taken care of very fast and super friendly staff from the Management, front desk maintenance and grounds staff.

Mia--Your husband must really be a charmer, as I never heard anyone say good things about anyone in that family.

toothdoc--glad at least you got a good lunch at RP. The timeshare owners at RP really deserve before than they had gotten there in the past.

Carol. That is so funny. I don't know if he is so much of a charmer, or that he just never shuts up.....lol

Ah, so the bartender would keep him drunk, so maybe he would shut up??? laugh
