Fresh Seafood

Fresh Seafood - 07/19/2022 11:06 PM

We will be visiting for a month and I will be doing some cooking hungry Where is it best for buying fresh seafood/fish to cook? We are staying in Orient but we will have a car so location is not a problem. Super U seems to be the go to for groceries, is that also the place to buy seafood? After 11 years we will be visiting our favorite island! Planned on being back the next year…but life happens! We will be there next Tuesday…can’t wait! joy

To me, the best seafood recently seems to be at Carrefour by the Causeway, as far as big stores. For other things, Super U seems to be the best place to buy, except for US made items.

I also love this place! It used to be just a little plywood shack.

Is the pricing and are the selections worth driving over from the Dutch side?

CaribLee---Not familiar with that place on the French side, but I assume you have been to Carrefour by the Causeway, as they have a big selection of fish.

I'm not so sure I would classify that the fish at carrefore are the freshest. Many times when we were by the fish cases there was a very strong ammonia oder that tells me its not in the best condition.

Carol.....I have.....and you are correct. This place lists lobster on their website which caught my eye so just wondering about selection and pricing from those who have been.

BarbyandLeo,
Not sure if you still can do it but you used to be able to go to the Marigot Market early on market days and purchase fresh fish from the fisherman there close to the waters edge. About as fresh as you could get I would think. But you need to get there early because you might find yourself competing with some of the local restaurant Evers for the pick of the catch. Wednesdays and Saturdays used to be the days they brought their catchbin.
