Weather System finally has named status - TS Earl

The system we have been following here on the forum for the last week and a half (Aug.25 thread) finally made status as a tropical storm overnight. It is now called tropical storm Earl. Important to know that this is not a major wind event. It is on the same forecast path as it has been all along which is just North of St Martin. There will be bands of rain, heavy at times, and intermittent thunderstorms. It will be more or less a rain day .

So far this am we have bright sunshine and a little breeze.

I guess the system is still a ways off yet.

Will be closest this afternoon, 80 miles. Happy to get the rain and luckily have nowhere to go.

#3 looks like the end of the boardwalk (or start) on Great Bay. #'s 4 & 5 are definitely at SBBR.

Holy Cow!!! There is literally NO beach at Maho. That's crazy

That is typical for an event like this on Maho Beach and some other beaches on the island. Not to worry, the swell will bring the sand back and the beach will return.

Just looked at the Sea Palace Webcam - I don't think I have seen the water that rough in quite a while.

Pretty rough this side with wind and sea. Other side not so much I hear. No rain.

We just went to our friend Son's Birthday Party at Sand Bar and had a little rain and a sudden gust of wind and then after everything was great.

Probably a good thing that tropical storm Earl has passed St Maarten and is moving away towards the North. It is forecasted to intensify but travel mainly over water. Good riddance to Earl.

Royal Caribbean Serenity of the Seas is in the Philipsburg port today.
After tropical storm Earl started moving away from sxm, the southern swell brought in lots of sargassum and did some erosion to beaches.
This morning at Great Bay, they are using a front end loader to remove some of the seaweed from the beach near the lounge chairs for the cruise ship beach goers.
Looks like those who take the trip to Maho Beach will be hard-pressed to find a place to stand or sit.

Looks like the passengers off the Royal Caribbean cruise ship Serenity of the Seas figured out a way to stand on the rocks and watch the planes at Maho Beach

Meanwhile, if you look at it right now, people are walking around in the road, like the idiots they are.

If anyone is interested in what the South Swell from tropical storm Earl did to Mullet Bay Beach, here is what it looked like this morning.

Wow, that's awful, and really unusual for Mullet. And quite a cliff!

Where there is a will there's a way. Hate to be blown onto the rocks.

As of 8pm tonight, Tropical Storm Earl is now HURRICANE EARL 😲.

Forecast to become a major hurricane later this week and pass by Bermuda.

Glad it had passed St Maarten and moving away 🌀..
