Question re water outages on French side

Question re water outages on French side - 04/03/2023 07:41 PM

During our last stay 2021 we rented a villa. It was very nice and convenient on Orient Beach.

We paid for two weeks but during our stay the French government shut the water off for days at a time.

Not pleasant to say the least.
We sacrificed our second week to go for comfort.

Florence saved our vacation by welcoming us at Orient Beach Hotel.
Very nice facility.

Just wondering if this is still happening?
Thanks in advance.
carib cheers

I heard it was happening about a week or so ago. My suggestion is that if you want to book a villa again on the French side, just confirm that they have either a cistern or some other alternate water source.

Just read it will be off tonight at 9 and maybe back on at 6am. Good luck on predicting what will be going on when you're there.

Was off for 5 days in a row 2 weeks ago in Anse Marcel. How widespread, I don't know.

I can't imagine having to put up with that. Seems like a regular occurrence over the past years.

Thanks to everyone. That was horrible to come back from the beach and not know if you are getting a shower.
Hope they figure it out. Orient Beach Hotel has their own water supply.
It is a more expensive option. It would be nice if villas would advertise their water supply.

carib cheers,

We are in an unit just behind Kontiki water sports area. Been here since last Tues
Still no water, today landlord says should have come on at 6 am and might take some time to get to us
If nothing by noon we will have to move

Re: Question re water outages on French side - 04/05/2023 02:16 PM

Looks like unit specific - Landlord seems to think it is SAUR [Fr government], we disagree as our neighbour has water as does the rest of the Costa Caraibes complex [ last townhouse complex to the south end - has the 2 pools]- waiting on his response
Hate to move and pay in effect double and then try to recover the cost from AirBnB

We did not have any issues at Esmeralda in late February and early March. Perhaps they have their own water supply?

Re: Question re water outages on French side - 04/05/2023 02:45 PM

Tech just left, our water is back on
The outside water valve was turned off???
You need a key to open the small shed where the valves are - so a bit of a mystery.

Prompt response by landlord Valentin - kudo's to him

We rented a Studio in Orient Village, from March 18 to March 25. We had no running water during daylight hours on Mon March 20 and Tuesday March 21. Rest of the week was fine.
I went into the Petit Casino Supermarket on March 21 to pick up some cold cuts for lunch. They had running water, because they had a cistern. I will try to get a full trip report out, as soon as I finish my tax return. Jim

We are spending a week in a villa above Happy Bay, beginning next Friday. Our agent has assured us that our villa has two cisterns, so the outages will have no impact on us. I sure hope she's right !

Re: Question re water outages on French side - 04/05/2023 07:22 PM

Georgia--I have to assume the agent is correct, as the villas above Happy Bay are all pretty high end. We stayed at Canoua, and it definitely had a cistern.

I feel comfortable with her statement. We don't normally drink bottled water, but will be doing that this trip.
