Just walked down the beach to check it out. It did not look to be open for the day yet, but looks good.

Elaine--that rooftop bar looks cool. It is actually staffed with a bartender up there?

Haven't seen a bar in use yet. There are not many people around this time of year. Couple of plane spotters with BIG cameras

OK, Elaine, that makes sense.

Love the video. They timed it to get the plane coming in. The viewing platform was built by the previous owner but the new owners have added a roof, lights and I suppose a bar.

We'll be checking it out in October!! People are wondering about the level of the music at night. The only music I want to hear is the sound of the ocean in front of my unit#1!!!

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/14/2023 03:30 PM

Despite the bad luck of the last beach bar there its always been a nice beach but maybe a little out of the way for some. We stay at BSV or Beacon Hill from time to time so hopefully they will limit any music or noise to daytime. We don't need another ROXY type of loud bar in the Beacon Hill neighborhood please. With Five or so nice beach bars already on Simpson Bay I can't imagine the need for another one but we will probably go check it out next month. Hopefully SXM does let another beach get to commercialized.

We took a walk to the Dinghys Bar and had a drink at the bar. Nice menu and very friendly people working there. The place is very clean and updated. We met Easila, her and her family own the place and they also own a similar beach bar in St Thomas. Seem like they have it together nicely. We did not eat there but will soon.

As far as the beach getting ā€œcommercializedā€ that ship has already sailed. There has been a place there for years. And as long as there is going to be a beach bar there it might as well be be a nice one like this new one appears to be.

Oh, I though Topper bought the place. That's what I had heard.

No - last I heard from a very reliable source he did buy a property but this was not it.

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/15/2023 01:35 PM

Topper is building that building almost next to Beachside, for sure. I think that perhaps he also bought that property in Beacon Hill that he demolished it and then was trying to build condos on the property.

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/18/2023 11:13 AM

We stopped by Dingy Beach yesterday for a light afternoon bite to eat and had the jerk chicken sandwich on a toasted roll. It was excellent and a lot to eat for a sandwich. It had a thick jerk sauce on it which we had not seen before. We got the side of cole slaw which was not big but very good. The service has been great and the staff friendly.

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/18/2023 03:19 PM

Arrived early yesterday at our Beacon Hill rental. Went by the new beach bar out of curiosity. Maybe to late as not a lot of people around so the service was good and drinks cold. As the previous business that was there, itā€™s still pretty basic beach bar no frills necessarily but adequate. A lot of beach bars seems like now on Simpson bay, everyone is interested in something new at first but we still much prefer Buccaneers or The Boon as their facilities are much nicer and more amenities. Plus they are long time loyal islanders. Roxy is nice but not our thing and expensive.

As I understand it, pretty sure Jessica still owns that beach bar property in the hotel, because he also owns the property down the beach at Karakter and leases it out. It was her late fathers property years ago and might have some family issues as far as selling it. But I understand she was trying to develop the property around karakter for a condo. Topper I think was still building those condos next to the new beach bar on Simpson bay as seen in the picture. I think itā€™s called The Drake. Fairly expensive from what Iā€™ve heard. His Beacon Hill project is under protest probably rightfully so since itā€™s just to big and out of place for the neighborhood. Letā€™s see what happens. Seems like itā€™s still a who you know thing.

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/23/2023 02:17 PM

We are just up the steps and down a bit in Beacon Hill from the beach and hear sort of loud music until about midnight but honestly cannot say where it was coming from. But it all might be a non issue in time because I over heard and pretty sure the new beach bar and little guest house there is already having legal issues as with the last tenant with the sxm lady property owner. I see in the paper the Gov is trying to control the late noise problems. Let's see if anything really happens because people need to sleep and you're not a good neighbor and won't support them if you don't respect that. IMO

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/23/2023 02:50 PM

We used to have a high timeshare unit at the Towers and heard relatively loud music from our balcony almost every night though we didnā€™t know where it emanated from. We never heard it going in or out of the building. We now stay at Beachside right on the water and have never heard any music at all and Iā€™ve always thought sound traveled over water.

Iā€™m almost embarrassed to ask this Silly question but could the volume levels have something to do with sound traveling up rather than across? šŸ™ƒšŸ™ƒ

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/23/2023 03:23 PM

Pat--surprised you never hear anything at BSV. Particularly on Sundays, we almost always hear music from somewhere down toward Karakter, often until at least midnight.
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/23/2023 03:24 PM

forever--if you're talking about Jessica, people always seem to have problems with her. She is apparently a difficult lady.

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/23/2023 03:46 PM

Nope! Never heard a peep but Iā€™m inclined to be pretty tolerant. One manā€™s pleasure can be anotherā€™s poison, right?

Actually, some evenings sitting out on our porch a soft musical background to accompany the waves might not be a bad thing as long as it wasnā€™t too loud or too thumping of the base sounds. When we would get that at the Towers weā€™d just go indoors and close the sliders. šŸ˜‰šŸ˜‰

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/23/2023 03:58 PM

We have stayed at Mary Boon before and never had any noise issues, pretty thick concrete walls help I'm sure. However Karakter sometime has that techno night on some Sundays but normally shuts off by 11ish. Their crowd seems to be dwindling anyhow as we walk by often. Hopefully the BSV area stays as noise and commercial free as possible.

Yes, we went last night at 5,pm. HH was 5 to 7 and a good guitar player from 5 to 8pm. I think we left about 7:30 back to BSV. There were about 35 customers. We ran into Tanja Pust and Annette and Gianni from the old Bavaria which was a real treat!

Thanks for the info. I can deal with a guitar player, so long as it's not Aerosmith!

Pat--no, the 'noise' from down that way as the "boom, boom, boom" variety.

We sometimes heard music from Karakters, when we arrived home from dinner.
It never was that loud and, we never heard it
inside.

I have also heard music at night when staying at Beachside Villas often until after midnight. If they have music at the new bar next door, it will definitely be heard there.

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/24/2023 12:20 PM

The only music so far at the Dinghy beach bar (Friday night) would definitly not be a problem for anyone.

Last night (Saturday) we sat on the back porch (BSV #13) till about midnight. There was a low level booming but you really had to listen hard to even hear it over the sounds of the surf. Seemed like it was coming from down towards Simpson Bay. It could have been from No Place Speicial (Next door to the St Maarten Yacht Club) since that seems to be the late night go to for the young crowd. Obviously nothing could be heard inside with the doors closed.

On the Dinghy food subject, as we mentioned, we have had the jerk chicken which was wonderful. Friday night we had a happy hour fried sampler platter ($22)with conch fritters, shrimp, salsa 7 Chips and wings. It was decent but fried food is what it is. I think the mixed drinks (Bacardi, Stoli, etc) were $5 at happy hour.

All in all the Dingjy is a very nice place for us. The staff remembers our names each time we show up and we've only been there three times.

On the noise problems we all know pretty much that the Simpson Bay Noise pollution is mainly from ROXY, Somewhere Special and sometime Karakter. We stay at BSV, Beacon Hill and the Boon and can say The Boon remember is a 30 to 40 room hotel first and normally only have a DJ on Sundays and only until about 6pm. We don't normally hear anything at the Boon but Karakter does have the stupid techno on Sundays at times. I don't see it as feeding "the trolls" as long as it's reliable info plus over and over you read about noise issues in these areas. To me it's just rude and bad business if you look next door and see condos and homes as in Beacon Hill or BSV with people trying to sleep to play loud anything at all. IF these places cant' fill their pockets with enough CASH during the day and be a good be a good neighbor then just don't support them. Finally the Beacon Hill people are starting to push back against these developers over building and Beach Bars that disturb the peace. I can say that for sure Friday there was sort of loud noise from I am assuming the new dingy bar until 10 or 11pm. At least not the BOOM BOOM BOOM type. Fine, but if you know it's loud, late and distracting for people to sleep just don't do it. I understand that the lady landlord for the dingy bar lives next door is having issues and trying to keep the noise limited and other things. It start with one night and then before you know it it's everynight. It seems to be popular opinion these places can be just to load at times. Everyone needs to play by the same rules.

I was merely stating that I did hear music while staying at Beachside and others have stated this as well. It never really bothers me as I am up much later than the music. Sorry, I know nothing about trolls.

Re: Dinghys Beach Bar SXM - 09/25/2023 01:56 PM

yes this post has gotten redundant and now again. I only vacation in the area and don't live there full time but the fixation maybe the concern more from the full time residents that the dingy bar will become like the past now out of business bar over ran with day time cruise ship people and loud music until late. It can get loud and nobody wants another ROXY just next door to BSV or Beacon Hill. I never thought it was that great of location since not a lot of breeze in that corner and ofter more seaweed etc than other places but lots of sand is nice. Pretty sure the residents will keep being very vocal if it gets out of control and disrupts the neighborhood. It's not that hard to turn the volume down so I don't see any problems. Lets see.
