It is very busy these days. Many people gather for World Cup qualifying (soccer) and the Rugby World Cup games, which are going on now.

Never heard of it. Where is it exactly?

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/22/2023 01:00 PM

It is located in Simpson Bay, behind Simpson Bay pharmacy and across from Zee Best.
There is outdoor and indoor seating. In this hot weather, it is better to be outside and hope to get some breeze.

I should also mention that they open for those sports events in the morning or afternoon. There were people there last week at 9am in the morning watching sports. 😳

I look forward to going there in November on our next trip, really like the people running it and happy for them to get this going.

It had another name recently but then closed and reopened with this name. I forgot the previous name but they had some of the recipes from Bavaria.

No idea about the current menu.

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/22/2023 02:49 PM

I think it was called The Pub.

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/22/2023 03:01 PM

It was called "The Pub" prior.

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/22/2023 04:10 PM

The food menu is quite limited. Just Dutch snacks.
Like sandwiches toasted ham and cheese and I believe chicken nuggets. As well.

Was this the place upstairs a long time ago with Patricia and Pat working there? Gentleman owner. Pasta something?
Back in the day of course...

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/22/2023 08:42 PM

Frikandel but no Bittenballen
Posted By: Carol_Hill

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/22/2023 09:41 PM

boucharda--looks to be mostly Dutch food. As in, inedible. laugh I've said this here before, but the best meal we had in Holland was Chinese food!!

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/22/2023 10:21 PM

Frikandel is like a sausage.
Super good. Broodje means a sandwich (like a hamburger bun)
Rookworst is a different kind of sausage
Dutch like sausages

It is very close to where Jimbo's was, a door or two down but right there. Pretty sure on that, not that I ever went to the previous pub there. Lost the name but right there or next door was the Mediterranean place that had fantastic baklava. I sure miss that baklava! One cocktail in and I already can't remember names.

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/23/2023 04:07 AM

i assume this new place has a new owner...we checked out the previous place, The Pub, last january...we stopped by on a saturday evening around 7, before going elsewhere for dinner…for the hour we were there, the only people in the place besides my wife and i were the owner and a bartender (who may have been his significant other)...we did have a nice chat with them, but we were surprised the place was so empty for a saturday night....maybe it picked up later on

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/23/2023 11:01 AM

Right next door to Jimbo's. Formerly The Pub, Byblos..... Yes, new owners. They're Dutch too.

It's Dutch. Don't like Dutch, don't go there. Great folks

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/23/2023 01:47 PM

Byblos! Definitely miss the baklava there! Also looking forward to trying it with the new owners.

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/23/2023 01:49 PM

It *is* a Dutch island.

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/23/2023 04:02 PM

Yes Byblos, speaking of great people I am sure glad we had a chance to spend time there. Stopping by if anything just for some baklava to go!

In the spirit of "people make the difference" I would expect Huppel the Pub to do fantastic. Hardworking upbeat personalities with lots of island experience.

I would say to those that aren't a fan of the food menu, enjoy this place before or after dinner. Sure looking forward to doing that in about 58 days!

Looks like a fun place to watch sports. I’ll be there. Looking forward to seeing Cris (or Chris or Kris) and Monique. Good people and fun.

Re: Huppel the Pub - 09/24/2023 01:06 AM

It was just called The Pub when it was owned by Michael and Tanja. It was sold and changed the name to Huppel the Pub to signify their Dutch heritage.

Is that Monique from Simpson Bay Yacht Club or another Monique?

Yes, Monique from the Yacht Club and formerly from Karackter .

We went last night for Monday night Jam. They carried that idea over from the previous "Pub". Great local cover pop, rock, etc. By Ronnie Santana, Alfredo Acosta and a few others that happen to show up. Only about 20 or less customers.

Re: Huppel the Pub - 03/25/2024 05:41 PM

Big difference from before, much better. You will love it.

Old Byblos, then was The Pub, next to where Jimbo's was.
