Things I’ve noticed…….

Things I’ve noticed……. - 11/07/2023 01:50 AM

We arrived a week ago yesterday and so far I’ve seen:

All the near islands, Saba, St Kitts, Nevis and Statia have become much more visible each day we’ve been here.

Today, for the first time since arriving we’ve seen minimal Sargassum wash up on our beach. I’m betting the groundskeepers here will be out early tomorrow raking the beach.

The waves have been very strong on our section of Simpson Bay Beach each day we’ve been here although they did calm down yesterday and we actually saw some brave souls in the water.

The streetlights on the road through Mullet Bay have been half lit on and off each night we’ve gone through it. And the lights on those monstrosities called Fourteen have been equally on and off from building to building.

The St. Maarteners are very solicitous of older and/or infirm individualism, much moreso than I’ve ever personally witnessed at home.

Thanks for the report. It really is lovely to be able to see Saba. Hopefully the sargassum is just a temporary thing.

Enjoy!!!

The sargassum, while there, was very minimal as it washed up on the beach. Which isn’t to say it’s presence won’t increase but I sure hope not.

"The St. Maarteners are very solicitous of older and/or infirm individualism, much moreso than I’ve ever personally witnessed at home."
What exactly does that mean. I'm serious as I really don't comprehend that statement.

Scuba,

I’m having to use a cane these days and just not getting around like I’m used to. We were out the other day and I had six people here offer to help me or open doors or carry something for me.

Of course I’ve had people offer at home but not to that degree.

Last year while here, one of the clerks at Carrefour in Jordan Village actually offered to shop for me.

Just saying that kindness plays a bigger part in basic nature here than it seems to at home.

Thanks for clarifying that. Good that they are like that on island. More should be like that at home. I know my wife and I are.

Pat, love seeing your trip reports, even though Ed and I are here at BSV also. I’m so bad at posting my own reports - I guess I just get lazy on vacation. I might attempt some semblance of a report after we get back home.

We have also enjoyed seeing all the islands almost every day since our arrival on the 1st. I don’t believe we’ve ever seen them that often before. As for those ‘brave souls’ in the water - those would be our son and DIL. jester This is their very first trip to SXM and they have been making the best of it, waves or no waves. Needless to say, they are having a wonderful time.

It was so nice talking to you and John at the Yacht Club the other day. I didn’t think we would ever quite manage to be on island at the same time. Better late than never, as they say.

pat--So good of you to make that observation, and to show your appreciation for others. I think that people on island seem to generally be more concerned with their fellow man (or woman!), while we here at home are more focused on our own, busy lives.

Tuesday morning while drinking our coffee I see that the near islands have gone away again but in the infamous words of a once four year old grandchild, “Don’t worry, Nana. They be back soon……..” 😊😊

It's cool that the nearby islands are getting clearer each day and there's less Sargassum on the beach now. Waves can be tough sometimes, but it's nice when they calm down. The streetlights and those "Fourteen" buildings seem a bit wonky, though.

Lucky you Robin and Ed to get a moment with Pat and John who are certainly in the celebrity class of island visitors.

Pat and John, will again miss you this year by a few hours but it is great to hear your reports and know that you two are there yet again enjoying island life. Have a great rest of your trip!

Thank you, Todd, but Celebs? I don’t think so……..you know how hard we try to stay low-key and off everyone’s radar.
Funny though that I just stumbled onto the photos we took a few years ago at your RI penthouse with the Langstons and the Masts. certainly among some of the best of our island times. 😊😊

What do you mean by wonky? Beachside Villas is very well light once night falls in the common areas, entrances to each unit and the parking area. On the Oceanside there are two lights to each deck.

I read it as he was talking about the "Fourteen" buildings that are the new towers on the Cupecoy side of the golf course. Not BSV being wonky.

Me, too. He just needed to explain himself a little more clearly.
