Spirit Airlines

Spirit Airlines - 01/28/2024 03:08 AM

I know Spirit is a controversial airline with many naysayers, but if you are on a budget it is hard to beat.

I just booked a flight from Fort Lauderdale to SXM for $89 on Spirit. Before anyone says that is not the true price because of the add on's, they are wrong in my case. The flight was $89 total. I do not pay for seats and I can fit everything I need for a week in my backpack. Total price $89. For $89 on a short 3 hour flight I don't care if I am stuck in a middle seat by the bathroom.

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate other airline more but at what expense? I fly every week for work so I have travelled pretty much every US airline at least 20 times. Yes, spirit is probably the worst but for $89 I will deal with it.

I actually thought the TAXES on that flight are more than $89?? Regardless, I just hope there are no problems. If they are still doing only one flight per week, if there's a problem with your plane, you could be waiting a long time. And Spirit does NOT cooperate with any other airlines. So Spirit has to get you there and back. Same is true with Frontier.

I would not be upset if I got an extra week in St Maarten. Besides, it looks like they are back to daily flights as I am flying in on a Saturday and out on a Monday.

DRich--I guess you're retired, as that would be a big problem for us.

OK, huh. I didn't remember that they ever had daily flights. I only remembered Saturday and maybe Sunday.

When Spirit was flying only Saturday to/from SXM our son missed the flight back and Spirit did not pay for passengers to stay on SXM. I believe back then they made arrangements for another flight to bring them home so only had to pay for one overnight--which, because kids don't usually have emergency funds, we paid for him. Can't remember when that was but I'd say maybe 8 or 9 yrs ago.

If your son "missed" the flight, that is not Spirit's problem and they would not be obligated to pay. Unless there is a mechanical issue, no airline is responsible for much at all.

The Saturday Spirit flight (back and forth to FLL) is usually reliable but, the prices have really jumped! We saw on the Saturday Feb 24 return flight the one way fare was $478....If you see a bargain price, don't hesitate, jump on it!!!

No it wasn't the son. Plane did not arrive so another was sent next day.
