DAY 6 FRIDAY

DAY 6 FRIDAY - 03/16/2024 10:41 AM

Not much to report from yesterday that wasn't previously mentioned.

We headed to Orient to go to Orange Fever. I did their reservation thing for loungers after initially communication via facebook. I wanted 5 loungers in the front row. Their response indicated it is never guaranteed but they would try. I did their WhatsApp reservation as they said that is the only way they accept reservations. We got there about 10:15 were escorted to the second row, while the front row was barely occupied. Perhaps others had reserved them be we repeated saw people arrive and get the front row. Not a big deal but I am not sure their reservation system really means much.

Some seaweed back from the water but you could walk around it or through it, I have seen it much worse. The water was nice but it was overcast with a moderate wind. It started to look like rain so I headed to the restaurant. Glad I did as it got packed once the rain came. Mahi Mahi burgers, pizza and a mahi salad (not on the menu but they accommodated the request) along with some water and wine made for a very nice lunch. I enjoyed seeing the cats again as well.

It continued to rain so we went back to Simpson Bay, a stop at Simpson Bay pharmacy to get Jill some medication for her leg and then back to The Atrium.

Some dominoes on the deck and a little plane watching.

I read elsewhere the runway was closed for a couple of hours and planes diverted. One cause mentioned was an electrical issue for the runway lights and another report indicated it was weather. It was extremely foggy and rainy most of the afternoon. We saw Delta come in about 4:30 or so maybe later, which made it 2+ hours late. From what I understand, it was diverted to San Juan before continuing to SXM. I have not gotten a Daily Herald yet to see if they mention the cause of the runway shutdown.

Off to Lee's for happy hour. I ran into TTOL friends, Jack and Barbara again as well. They both had the mahi mahi and said it was good, their plates were empty. The others in the group came in later for dinner. I passed on a meal as I was still content with the big lunch and some leftover beef short rib from Jax I had before going to Lee's. Lee's was very busy but the food seemed to be coming out pretty good and they had lots of help.

Not a good day weather-wise but we did enjoy Orange Fever.

A sunset cruise tonight for the newbie.

I guess there is no longer a printed Daily Herald on Saturday. I checked the one from Friday and it indicated it was the Friday/Saturday edition. I was hoping to find out about the airport runway situation.

Sounds like you had a good day, despite the rain. Orange Fever does a good job. We also like the place next door, which has a more french flair. Name escapes me at the moment, since I'm still on my first cup of coffee.

No mention of the airport closure in the online version today ether.

One other thing we observed yesterday was some sort of scooter accident. Not sure what happened but he was down and not moving. No blood or body parts on the road but he was hurting.

Scubaman, perhaps they are shielding the airport from any negative mention. It was pretty heavily discussed on facebook.

Yes. Saw it on Facebook. Lots of theories but no facts. Hopefully some facts will emerge eventually.
