DAY 10 TUESDAY

Posted By: ruralcarrier

DAY 10 TUESDAY - 03/20/2024 11:01 AM

Another overnight shower but then a beautiful start to the day. Pastries for La Sucriere were the order of the morning. I was supposed to be meeting my island goddaughter late morning but that got changed to later afternoon so we decided to head to Mary's Boon for one last beach day for Cady as he departs today. We did not get there in time for padded loungers in the front row so we settled in on the 2nd row in the mesh loungers. It was windy so the surf was a little rougher than the previous visit but entry and exit to the water was still pretty good. We spent several hours there, had a couple of drinks and lunch. Their version of a BLT was very good.

Aiesha (goddaughter) we supposed to arrive here around 3:00 but there was some miscommunication between her and her ride so she ended up taking the bus and got here about 4:30. She has been living in Atlanta the past several years but is back on SXM, working at the airport and living with her mother. She will return to Atlanta in a couple of months so she will resume studies at Georgie State. She will be 22 in October; I was on the island a day or two after her birth, back again for her christening and also for a surprise 8th birthday. She has known most of our group from the time she was old enough to remember. We had a nice visit and then walked over to Lee's for happy hour and to continue visiting. We were later joined by the rest of my group and a friend of Aiesha, Calvin. I have gone from seeing her in diapers to being able to share a drink with her as a young adult.

Dinner decision had been changed and then changed again but we ended up at LaPatrona. I had tried calling several times to see about parking since 2 in the group are rather gimpy still. No answer, just a recording from Simpson Bay Resort that circled through prompts without anyone ever answering. Remembering what Whale tail posted about having the front desk make a call for him, I asked at the front desk at Atrium to call. The lady promptly got through to their shuttle service, which promptly showed up and drove directly to the level the restaurants are on. Very efficient and convenient. We used the same shuttle to return to Atrium. We had a variety of entrees; all were good and there was no service charge.

I was done for the evening while the others ventured to the Casino Royale. I have no idea how they did as they are still all in bed. I pretty much keep a similar schedule while on vacation as I do at home. I have been out of bed by 6:15 every morning and that is actually 1+ hours later than at home.

Tomorrow is departure day for me while the final 3 depart on Saturday.

I hope these daily updates have provided some insight for others.

Overall, another great trip. I met a couple of new TTOL friends, many old TTOL friends and had planned to meet a few others but time runs short. It has also been fun to see a your (almost) 22 year old experience his first trip to SXM.

Thanks!

Thank you. Supposed to be 28 degrees at home overnight Thursday. My wife went from mowing the lawn for the first time (about 3-4 weeks ahead of the usual first time) with trees flowering to 20+ degrees windy and snow flurries in the course of a few days.

Wow, I can't believe Aiesha is 22!!!!!!!!!! I remember her coming and swimming in the pool at Royal Palm one time. Time flies!!

That's interesting with regard to the shuttle service for LaPatrona. Is that only from one resort in Simpson Bay to there? I hadn't heard of it before. Probably it wouldn't work for us from BSV.

Charlie went to Casino Royale from La Patrona? Or to Hollywood? Hollywood used to be his favorite.

Enjoy your last day. Hope tomorrow goes well.

I can’t believe your wife mows your lawn.

Tim--not sure why that would be surprising to you. I don't do it all the time, but I have been known to mow our yard.

My wife has never physically touched our lawn mower, snow blower, etc.

Yep, she will be 22 in Oct.

I thought they went to Maho but changed to Hollywood at the last minute as nobody wanted to drive that far and I was in for the night

I have no idea how far the shuttle runs but it worked out great on this occasion.

MotownTim: Our usual first date to mow is April 1-12 or so with March 18 being the earliest I can remember and that was 2012, I think. We have a zero-turn and she actually enjoys using it. She has used the snow blower a time or two also. The mowing was out of necessity as with the mild winter, and recent temps in the 70's and with lawn service, the grass was really taking off. I had the mower ready to go as she thought she would have to use it.

My first mow was yesterday as it is supposed to rain here fo the next 10 days or so. That will work the fertilize in pretty good and then will have to mow every 5 days. Yuck.

Yep, every 3-5 days in the spring.

On the subject of lawn mowing, we have a ride on. Hubby was surprised when I came home from the store with a reel mower for myself.

Enjoyed all of your reports and photos, JD, especially since I've missed yet another March trip. How nice to have such special friends and family on island! Did you by chance ever bump into Marybeth this year?
Wishing you safe travels home😎

No, I did not. I know she was or is here but I never saw anything other than one post she made. I would have liked to have seen her.

Thank you.

I truly enjoyed reading your trip reports, and your photos are great too!

We’ll have to try Lee’s happy hour sometime. Sounds like a great place to meet people.

Safe travels home!

Lee's has a really good HH if what you drink is on it and if not, it is still very reasonable. I am heading there now!

Thx for your reply. Was just wondering since I sent her an email and private message when I learned of her husband's passing but never got any replies.

The Simpson Bay shuttle goes as far as the bridge and up to Izzis. That was what the range was last year.
