Any tips for travelling to Ireland in August - 04/03/2015 08:48 PM

Just booked a tour in southern Ireland for August this year. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" /> Wondering what should we expect in the way of weather, etc. Hotels are provided for on the tour so maybe eating out some when we have time so how much extra $$ should we bring and would you convert to Euro's before hand? Thanks, Butch

If you don't like the weather, wait 5 minutes.
Bring a credit card (Visa or Masters, not AmEx) and some Euros for taxis and pubs.

As Jørgen implied, you could have pretty much anything other than snow and ice. It could be glorious with temperatures in the 70's or more with not a cloud in the sky or it could be grey, cloudy and wet with temperatures in the high 50's, low 60's. Most likely it'll be a mix of the two.

Money... Use credit cards or go to ATMs to get Euros. If you are more comfortable having cash in your pocket then buy the Euros before you come.

Any tips... Don't tip the usual American 20%. 10% is fine all over Europe.

Ireland is known as a 'green' country for good reason: you will undoubtedly encounter rain. Actually the colour associated with Ireland Is blue not green. That was the colour of St Patrick's robe. Having a good sense of humour helps too!

We LOVE Ireland. So friendly. Of course bring rain gear but our best advice would be to sure to go to local pubs where there is a sign that says"music tonight". Nothing captures the spirit of Ireland better than a local pub with music and Guiness!

Hi guys...boy am I jealous! We did not go in August, but went in April/May in 2009. I would think spring and fall are similar. I did a full report on our 17 day trip on this site. If you are in World Wide Travel, just click on the views column, and it will list them by number of views, you can't miss the report, there are over 50,000 views on our trip around country, staying at B + Bs..maybe it will help you...any questions, please let me know..
Thanks,
Dave
