OK, here we go
Sorry Carol, not Grenada. I'll wait a little longer for some hints.
Ilset Pigeon, Guadeloupe FWI
Not FWI, but same language and SE of FWI.
Changed to Martinique due to the language cluie
If not part of FWI then I can only think of French Guiana?
Mike, can you be a little more specific?
I can't Fred. I know French Guiana exists but that's about it!
This place had one of the most famous (or infamous) facilities of its kind in the world.
You got it sleepychef. The first picture was Devil's Island taken from Ile Royale (where most prisoners were kept). Second picture was hospital on Ile Royale.
Thats was just from. the clues, but perhaps my next holiday.
An easy one
You got it sleepychef. The first picture was Devil's Island taken from Ile Royale (where most prisoners were kept). Second picture was hospital on Ile Royale.
Can't believe I'd forgotten about Devil's Island!! What were you doing there Fred? Inmate?
Mike I figured you stopped there on the World Arc . I was there with Oyster Rally. I escaped before they checked my record.
Hmm... this looks like a model of my neighbor's pet

Apart from being a model of a triceratops I'm at a loss. The only place that comes to mind are the La Brea tar pits in California but I'm not sanguine about my chances of being correct as the vegetation in the picture doesn't look like southern California.
I'm thinking Universal Studios
wrong part of the continent
Mike I figured you stopped there on the World Arc . I was there with Oyster Rally. I escaped before they checked my record.
No, we went straight from Recife, Brazil up to Grenada. We nearly stopped in French Guiana though as the Privilege that was hit by a ship and dismasted planned to pull in there. They thought it being French speaking it would be easier to get stuff from the Privilege factory. In the end though their insurers said they didn't want them going in because of lack of facilities so we escorted them all the way to Grenada.
So is Canada the right part of the continent.
yes
So a concert and a dinosaur in Canada, huh. So I am guessing the dinosaurs were mainly west. So somewhere in British Columbia.
I’ll wait for someone else who might know something.
Ellen
Its in Vancouver the concerts happen all summer long, but whats the name of the park?
I’ve been to Vancouver but not recalling the name.
I’ll see if anyone does or google kicks in by the morning.
no the other side of Vancouver
Have relatives I have visited and i know they go......, Queen Elizabeth park is the other one I can think of ?
Ocean Country Show, Equal, it's 3 letters and a word, not really a park but a place in a park.
Wounderland? Just a guess
use google , it's an event that lasts all summer. There are summer night concerts and a battle didn't occur here in 1066
Hastings for 1066, but not three letters.
Lam? David Lam Park?
One more try:
Playland at the PNE
Yes PNE Fair in Hastings Park,
jphart your up
Yes PNE Fair in Hastings Park,
jphart your up
Hard work on getting to that one! New photo coming up...
Both structures are navigational aids. What city?
Looks like the intracoastal waterway in the Southeastern US to me but I don't see a clue for a city.
If you are on a heading to the first photo, and turned to the stern, you’ll see this lighthouse.
I'm going with Fred and saying it looks like somewhere on the ICW. However, I've done most of it and don't recognise that cross. So I'm going to guess at a city that I missed... Wilmington.
The “Oldest City” is correct! The Cross is seen as you enter St Augustine from the Atlantic
The fort to the south and Camachee Cove marina to the north of the cross are popular stops for cruisers and those transiting the ditch. Keep it between the markers, good depth, but shifting bottom
Fran is up

Can't believe that! I've entered St Augustine from the Atlantic and didn't see that cross. Mind you I was keeping a very close eye on the waves, the nav aids and the depth sounder at the time. Didn't enjoy that entry at all.
I just got home from work, will try to get something put up but if someone else has a photo ready please go ahead and post.
Edit,
I don't have a photo sharing site that I use so not sure I can post a photo anyway. Carol, how about you post another photo.
Fran-- Here is a link to the FAQ, which tells you how to create a photo gallery.
LinkOr, you can just use the ATTACHMENT MANAGER to directly upload a picture to a thread. Just hit REPLY as normal and click on USE FULL EDITOR. That bring up up a screen which will show ATTACHMENT MANAGER just below where you would normally type your note. Click to open the Attachment Manager. Hit on Select a File to Attach and VOILA! Just upload your picture!

Mike, I though you might have got it. Entry is known as tricky, especially in bad weather or at night.
https://www.waterwayguide.com/nav-alert/4-5600/fl-inlet-caution-st-augustineNavigation: From the sea buoy, proceed slightly south of east towards the inlet, paying close attention to the markers. You will see a tall cross ahead on shore providing an approximate range to the inlet, which will help you to orient yourself.
I don't have a photo ready to post right now. If someone wants to post a new photo, go ahead, and then maybe Fred can figure out how to post a picture...
Carol I think you meant Fran, but since said Fred, here is a picture.
Just testing, not for guessing purposes.

Well heck, it worked for this old dinosaur. Thanks Carol!
Let Fred's phot be the one to guess , I'll know better if I ever get one again.
So I am going to guess canal in Manchester England area?
Fred--

Sorry!!
Fran--you got it!!
Fred’s photo...canal lock in France
Not Manchester or France - but the former is closer.
This might provide more confusion than help, but here goes.
Not Holland or River Shannon. To fall back on one of Tom's quizzes re :countries where we drive on the left, this place isn't Ireland, N. Ireland, Wales, or England. It's another country.
Yes Ellen, now where? It even has it's own song (although probably not on the top ten list or even top 10,000 list)
If it's the place I'm thinking of, it has a connection to optical data transmission.
I'll say no more.
Dan
Don't know about optical data and not Caledonia.
If it is not Caledonian then I think it must be the Crinan Canal.
The Crinan Canal it is. Mike, you're up.
Another cold one...
Ahhh... that was very easy to identify for anyone who has gone up and over instead of through! I'm not at my computer now and won't be able to post a new picture for a couple of hours so I won't post my guess until I am in a position to put up the next one.
I got tired of the office, so went home and now have one monitor with private stuff including this browser session and another monitor with work stuff that pays for the private stuff

I believe that the picture was taken at the St. Gotthard pass in Switzerland. I was only there once, in summer, on my motorcycle but those serpentine roads were either a biker's paradise or nightmare; I can't recall which...

Dan

So I guessed wrong about which canal it was. Solitons, which can be used in optical communcation (
link here), were first described after being observed in the Union Canal.
Sorry for the nerdy diversion.

Dan
Dan, I was curious about the link between a canal and optical communication. Thanks for the explanation.

That's correct Arnd. I'm off to Spain shortly so I thought I'd post one that I was pretty confident someone would get quickly.
Just after I put the camera away 6 convertible Lamborghini Murcielago's turned up all with the tops down. Couldn't get the camera back out before they disappeared down the hill.
Even at the height of summer the snow was like this...
Here's a picture I took in somewhat more temperate climes:
Um, that is not fair at all! How did you get that? William & Mary is my Alma Mater and I visited recently and took quite a few picture of my old campus (including fraternity building) and in Colonial Williamsburg as well and had a series of pictures lined up to post. Even though I spent many a weekend playing around in the "sunken gardens" shown on the image, I'm not sure I would have guessed the location that quickly.
Lived 30 years in Virginia, visited Williamsburg many times. Go ahead and post some of your follow up pictures, as I would love to see them... And I need to look for a picture..
First would have been the pillory, then the carriage which I think would have given it away.

Oh, EVERYONE has their picture taken at the pillory!
OK, this one probably is really easy. Going for the name of the town, although extra credit for the actual name of the church.
Not a great image. Sorry.
![[Linked Image]](http://www.traveltalkonline.com/gallery/41/full/6636.jpg)
Better picture of the actual church here. Sorry, the images are 40 year old slides..
OOps - didn't realize that a new picture had been posted. Please ignore the content of this post
Not the biggest town and we used to sit on the wall at "confusion corner" at the head of the main colonial concourse and watch accidents unfold while drinking from hidden bottles of beer. For those who haven't been there, this intersection is where 4 roads meet at 45° angles to each other and with too many signs around to make it clear which road has the right-of-way. I'd moved there from Kobé so it was a bit of a downsizing...
The first picture points down the Duke of Gloucester tourist attraction past "confusion corner" taken from the Wren building, where I had lectures that were not infrequently interrupted by camera toting tourists who didn't realize that the building was part of campus and not Colonial Williamsburg

.

No problem, always enjoy seeing pictures of Williamsburg!
Bavaria in Germany (and I believe that both pictures are inverted from the slides)
Definitely Bavaria--Could be the pictures are inverted. Sorry. I think the Google time has passed. The church is on the front of many tourist brochures.
ding, ding, ding! You're right xrayman! You're up!
Where and what is this?
Maybe a salt mine near the Gernan/Austrian border.
It is somebody's colonoscopy report... should the question be who not where?

totally clueless on this one
Not a salt mine and far away from Germany.
Just looks like a tunnel to me. Going to guess in the US.
Just looks like a tunnel to me. Going to guess in the US.
This is in the US.
This picture was taken not far from the original.
Yes. Do you know what this is?
Yes! Nahuku Lava Tube in Hawaii Islands National Park. You're up!
https://ibb.co/ZMnQgVN[/img]
Where am I? Hint: USA
Well, that didn't work. Give a few minutes to learn.
Yes. And not too far from you Adrian.
Gulf Islands National Seashore
ndfan--you need to use FULL EDITOR and use the Attachment Manager to upload photos directly OR use the IMAGE tag. Some sites won't allow you to use the image tag and directly display your picture, it depends on the site. You can always just upload it here and that always works.
Second attempt
Thanks Carol
Another angle and dinner at a local spot

See--there ya go!! South Carolina??
South Carolina yes. But where? Near a lighthouse.
Ah, don't know, but at least I have narrowed it down for others!
Not Tybee (reminder, SC). Not Pawleys. Further south and it is an island.
Sorry Ellen, not Sullivan’s. A mansion on this island, when built, was the largest domestic building erected on the SC coast made of tabby.
I love Isle of Palms!! But no.
I guess there is a large domestic building on Parris Island, but I don't think they serve a meal like that.
I discovered Daufuskie Island while on a golf trip in Hilton Head. We scheduled a round over there. It was so beautiful I took my wife there for a few days celebrating our 20th. Sadly ‘07/‘08 economic downturn hurt the island terribly. The inn had shutdown and fell into disrepair. But it never lost its true low country beauty. Not surprised you guessed correctly TRIM.
Tom, thank you for starting this. I have learned so much. I’m not the world traveler some of you are. But this has been a lot of fun. I have been following since this started and it took until Adrian’s latest pic for me to chime in. Thanks again Tom.
You are up TRIM!!
About 2 hours ago my wife told me that I had to take her to Daufuskie Island. I said ok. I also have only been over there to golf. I had to chuckle when I saw your picture. I will have a new picture posted in a few minutes.
Here is my picture. Name this lake.
No idea but it’s beautiful.
It doesn’t appear tropical. And the water is very clear. I’m gonna guess somewhere in the U.P. MI?
Not in the deh U.P. eh. Not in Michigan.
Not Yellowstone. Too far north and a little bit too far west.
To access this lake, you have to hike 1.6 miles, all up hill.
Beerman is on the right track with Colorado.
This lake gets over 130,000 visitors a year. I am surprised that someone didn't recognize it immediately.
Found it via google, nice! when's the google deadline?
I think we are past 18 hours now, so google is open.
I was surprised when I googled it, that one of the pictures looked exactly like mine. I just want to confirm that I did take the picture in 2016.
There is 1000 feet of elevation gain in the 1.6 miles to the lake at the top.
Mill’s Lake? I had to google. But still not sure.
Nope, not Mill's Lake. Western Colorado, I-70 corridor.
Hanging Lake near Glenwood Springs! I've been to Denver several times but never out that way!
Beerman got it. You are up.
Where am I, Could be a softball for some...
Skull Rock? I have no idea, but it is cool.
That sounds like an appropriate name for it, but I don’t know what it’s actually called, where is it located?
Shoot I was just there last week, but hangin lake was closed due to the forest fire damage I believe!! Trying to win another one, darn.
Virgin Gorda, near Guavaberry and spring Bay?
Virgin Gorda is correct!!....it's on a path between Devils Bay and the Baths.
not to sound like a breakfast cook but.....Toast is up!!!
Wow, I have walked through there several times and haven't seen the rock. I shall put that on my list of things to see.
Ok picture fans....
It has been 12 hours with no picture posted by Toast.
The board is open for a new picture.
It is a Great Time for a lurker or newbie to post.
First to post restarts the game. Let us keep it rolling!
Where are we going next?
This is a real easy one and TTOL's own Sunset Sammy is taking a picture to feature in one of his great trip reports.
I would say somewhere in South America, just a guess
Nope, change my guess. Looked at the picture again, two many columns to be in South America, so let’s go across the pond, I say somewhere in Italy. Once again, just a guess
Correct XRayman - I didn't think this would last long. You're up XRay!
Here you go!
LOL, yes. Old San Juan. Thought that might be too easy, but I liked the photo!
you left the flag in it also ha! please post another!
you left the flag in it also ha! please post another!
LOL, and the umbrellas say Puerto Rico. Thanks Beerman, give me a minute and I'll post another.
Let's try this one.
I think that's Barcelona, just at the end of the Ramblas.
Jeannius is correct! Perfect answer- you're up
Was there not long ago so not too difficult for me.
Have a go at this...
Yes, India. I thought about taking out the flag but thought it would be difficult to identify.
No Fred, not Goa. Further north than that.
I sent the picture to my friend, so do we have ask a friend? If not its a coloured castle with its own sandwich shop
North of Goa makes me think of Mumbai but I have no idea what the building may be.
Well it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site so I thought someone might have got it by now. It isn't Mumbai Fran but it is in another very large city.
Since it has been up for 24 hours now I guess it must be time for Google.
Red Fort - Delhi - thanks for the hint Mike and thanks Google.
That's it Fred. I was just about to post this which would have given it away...
OK, on this first picture I will say there is a relationship (but you have think) between the country Mike just featured and this one. I am looking for the closest city to this picture.
Not Matara Sleepy, but here is another clue via picture
But it is on the Nile... Correct?
But it is on the Nile... Correct?
Abu Simbel
I am going on record as Egypt somewhere on the Nile River... South of Giza and North of Aswan

Luxor?
Not Abu Simbel - bigger city.
Alexandria, so is Cairo, but I can’t figure out the tall structure in the distance.
Sorry guys I was away for the weekend. I will jump in somewhere soon!! Guavaberry is one of my favorite places as is the Baths....
The name of this city is also the name of a well known movie with an all star cast from the mid sixties.
I think I know based on the last hint, but I couldn't wait and googled to be sure................;-)
When I took this picture 30 years ago, this city was the capital of the largest country on the African continent. It is still the capital, but the country has shrunk.
I've got it but can't post a photo so I'll leave it for now. You must have a had a very interesting earlier life Fred if you were where I think it is 30 years ago!
Khartoum?
Oh drat, I posted in an open window, Refreshed, and it looks like Peter beat me if that’s the correct answer.
I have no idea about the movie hint....don’t watch many movies.
Khartoum, at the confluence of the Blue Nile and White Nile, is correct. Sleepychef you're up.
What were you doing in Khartoum back then Fred? (or can't you tell anyone!)
Mike, I was working on a UN (Development Programme) project. One of those unique experiences that you were glad you had and never wanted another.
Country please, should be quick and then a new thread?
This looks like a commercial submarine tour. I have friends who took a tour on Maui so I'm going to guess "USA".
Mike, I was working on a UN (Development Programme) project. One of those unique experiences that you were glad you had and never wanted another.
I know what you mean Fred. I was very glad to have done my business trip to Delhi but I was in no rush to go back a second time.
The depth gauge showing 125ft must be a bit of a clue as not many parts of the world still use feet as a unit of depth. So I'm going to go UK which although supposedly metric does use the old units quite a lot.
Mike/Fred - I did my time working equatorial Africa (Côte d'Ivoire) and enjoyed pprts of it; but wouldn't want to go back!
Thanks Peter for the info. The people have finally made strides overcoming an oppressive government and now this disaster.
OK, strictly a guess but I'll try Bahamas.
No but going in right direction
Don't know where it is, but it makes me want to say "Open the pod bay door Hal."
Dan
Ok you can be only in two places, Aruba or Barbados. You are in one of the Atlantis sub. They have two of these subs, or they use too. We were in the ABC,s right after Irma and saw one of these hauled out of the water, had a very inserting conversation with the pilot.
Barbados we have a winner, start a new thread please.
