Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary on Bequia

Old Hegg Turtle Sanctuary on Bequia - 03/11/2015 07:20 PM

A recent post about critically endangered hawksbill turtles got me thinking about this place again.

What can you do to help endangered turtles beyond signing a petition?

It turns out you can do something! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />

Barb and I visited the Old Hegg turtle sanctuary on Bequia a few years back during a sail around the Grenadines.

What a fantastic thing Brother King is doing to help these endangered animals survive! Baby turtles are food for just about everything. He captures small turtles as they hatch and raises them until they are large enough to survive in the wild. His efforts reduce the horrible mortality rate of these creatures from 99.9% to below 50%.

Brother King could use your support. If you would like to materially support his work you can do so via a membership through the web-site linked below.

Just wanted to bump this one up a bit. My daughter spent her "life savings" there a few years back when we visited. Definitely a worthwhile and positive effort at the sanctuary.
