Provisioning in Rodney Bay, St. Lucia - 12/20/2013 07:18 PM

Hi All --

I will be doing a one way charter from St. Lucia to Grenada the first two weeks of April, 2014. The Moorings has recently moved their base to Rodney Bay (I assume this has to do with their being purchase by Sunsail’s parent.)

I am looking for recommendations for provisioning the boat in Rodney Bay. Which markets do you recommend? Is it like Road Town where larger markets like the Rite-Way or Bobby’s available? Also, is there one or more liquor distributors such as TICOS in the Rodney Bay area?

Thanks in advance for your help.

There are two supermarkets at the beginning of the Rodney Bay strip in the malls there. You can take your dingy to the end of the lagoon and you will see the dingy dock. Lock it up and walk to the road then turn left. The one in the older mall is a little cheaper for basics, the one in the new mall has a bigger selection of products. Usually the bag boys will help you wheel your cart(s) to the dingy and load up for a tip. Liquer can be purchased at the supermarkets as cheaply as anywhere. The local premium rum is Chairmens reserve, they also have a special Admiral Rodney, which in my opinion is not worth the extra cost.

A couple more things, the grocery stores will not accept US $100 bills due to counterfieting concerns, not sure about $50's,so you will either need smaller bills, credit card or local currency from the bank or ATM.
The new supermarket has a much better selsction of wine than the older one.
