Round-the-World Cruise

Round-the-World Cruise - 10/20/2018 12:14 AM

In January, 2020, I am embarking on a four-month, round-the-world cruise on MSC Magnifica. I am currently googling for packing tips for four months and other related issues. My question is for those who have actually been on a world cruise. What should a novice world cruiser (I am not a novice cruiser) know? What didn't you know that you wish you had? What are the most important tips you can impart?

Linda--I have to assume that you have posted this question on Cruise Critic. I would be pretty surprised if anyone here has done a round the world cruise. I personally would be worried about the cost for excursions in the various ports. How is it possible to get any handle on the total for that????

I think it is a wonderful journey for you but try not to sweat the small stuff. One day at a time and the clothes should be simple but chic. I like to wear outfits that mix and match. I like black and white with a pop of color in my accessories.
The length of the cruise is too long for me but honestly I almost booked a similar cruise many years ago. ⛴⚓️

Linda, I read on CC somewhere (probably Holland) about some people going on a World Cruise asking best method to get a couple cases of wine on ship (carry-on rolling cart or let boxes go on ship with luggage)....so you might check Viking, Holland, Princess, Celebrity, etc boards about tips for world cruise. (He wasn't concerned about paying corking fees, just wanted to figure out safest way to get the bottle on ship!

In addition to joining the Roll Call, you may want to check out and post questions on the World Cruising forum (part of Special Interest Cruising forum) on Cruise Critic.

Apart from sheer length of time, a factor with these world cruises is the huge variety of climate/weather conditions you may encounter - how much do you worry about that?

Our longest cruise to date is 14 nights, but we will be on Radiance of the Seas next year for 38 nights, Vancouver to Sydney and then will be in Australia for another couple weeks. A planning issue is what to carry in luggage to port of embarkation and what to buy there before boarding, and then what to plan to buy along the way, if anything - given limitations of luggage on airplanes.

You have a lot of time to plan - and hopefully the planning and anticipation will give as much enjoyment as the cruise!
