airfare guidance? Planning for Dec '15

airfare guidance? Planning for Dec '15 - 12/31/2014 08:00 PM

I'm working to help some first timers budget for a family trip, we're thinking of flying down possibly on Christmas day (possibly cheaper airfares?), but still not sure on exact dates. Anyway, I kind of know what we paid around the same time last year ('13) from Baltimore, but since none of the airlines have their schedules up for this time next year yet, wondering if anyone might be helpful and provide guidance on what they might have spent this Christmas to get to either STT or EIS from FLL, MIA or ATL? Also, any suggestions? My wife and I are taking the two sets of in laws and each of our younger brothers. One family lives in the Melbourne area (assuming it's best for them to fly in and out of FLL or MIA) and the other lives in Charleston, SC, but thinking it might be cheapest and possibly easiest for them to drive down to Melbourne and fly out of FLL or MIA as well.

Appreciate all the insight! Oh, and I'm hoping to finally get a trip report up from our November trip shortly, hopefully this weekend.
Cheers

personally I would wait on the purchase - with the recent downdraft on oil prices I would suspect that many airlines with have worked through their hedged prices by Summer and be looking at lowering flight costs - while Christmas is always more expensive than most of the year I would start looking come June or July for some breaks. cheers Brian

Just went SJU to BWI round trip for $259 on Southwest. We bought the tickets early summer. Keep checking when they are available and lock in when you think you have a good price.

Thanks Brian and crescendo. Wow, $259 rt, that's pretty good! Was that late December?
I assume you flew on to EIS from there, what was your choice of carrier and how did that work out? We flew Air Sunshine recently and probably will not fly them again. How are things with Seaborne these days? We had our flight with them eliminated just a couple weeks out and had to change plans.

If you can fly out on Christmas Day and back on New Year's Day you might get a decent price. You're not going to get a bargain the rest of the Holiday.
