flyfishing n' trolling

We are taking a 8 day cruise and we would like to do some fishing on our catamaran. We have rented some trolling gear and we are bring our saltwater fly rods. We are not heading to Anegada for bonefishing, but would love to catch some reef fish or larger on flies. Can someone recommend some good flies to use? Any advice would be appreciated or links.

Last year a member in our party went to a local fish store and they told him what people were catching things on at that time. I can't remember exactly what he used (I think it was a blue/green squid) but never has he ever had as much success and excitement trolling!

On our way from Anegada to Cane Garden Bay he got a hit and was bringing it in when all of a sudden something MUCH larger came and snatched the fish he was bringing in. We didn't see details but some big shadows. It was really neat.

On our way from Jost to Norman he was literally getting a hit almost every 15 minutes! It was a lot of fun to catch them. He caught and released at this point but was an extremely eventful sail. I can't remember what kind of fish he was catching but whatever those squid lures the local recommended worked like a charm.

For our trip mid-march we will also be trolling and fly-casting while underway. I plan on using a trolling rod port side, and a hand line attached with a shock cord starboard. Then spot casting for any opportunistic bites on the fly rod.

FrenchL, Sorry, but I didn't address your earlier question re: WHAT flies to use... What I've been reading and the general consensus is ><always ask locals first><. Make a call to the Marina and see what the recent success stories have been. That will be my plan in March.

Brightly colored/flashy flies are what I'm hearing most that the Dolphin are hitting on currently. Terrestrials and streamers.
Perhaps a LARGE streamer assortment... I would lean towards the larger Chartreuse, Red/Yellow, or Blue/White

From a rod perspective, 8wt-12wt depending on species of fish you are after.
Bonefish 8-10wt
Game fish (Mahi, Wahoo, Tuna, Cuda) while trolling 10wt
Tarpon 10-12wt

..and once you bring your catch aboard, IF you decide its a keeper (eater) and not a candidate for carrying Ciguatera...Then a quick dousing of CHEAP Rum into the gills while under a wet towel will quickly dispatch the fish.
