My husband makes the best I've ever had the privilege to drink and I must say I've drank my share <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/drinking.gif" alt="" />

Ingredients: lime, raw brown sugar, mint, Cuban rum if you can obtain it otherwise our favorite for a mojito is Monte Cristo Rum and club soda

Slice lime into small wedges about 8 - take 3 of those wedges and approximately 5-6 mint leaves and 2 teaspoons brown sugar muddle together very well

Fill glass with crushed ice add rum 1.5 - 2 oz top with club soda small wedge of lime squeezed into glass stir and enjoy... He says you can adjust rum and sugar to taste. Enjoy!

Nothing better than a well made Mojito! We make ours by muddling mint and smallish lime wedges in the bottom of a tall glass. Then add simple syrup ( more if you like them sweet, less if you don't ), Fill the glass with crushed ice, add Bacardi Limon and a little club soda. Shake it up in a shaker and pour back into the glass. Man, I've got a heck of a craving now smile

My favorite recipe is to walk up the stairs to The Restaurant at Leverick Bay and plunk myself down at the bar and ask Shawn to make me the best Mojito in the BVI. It hever disappoints.

I like the way you think, Mike!

Only 1 problem with the plan. I am up here in Canada, and leverick bay is 1800 miles south. Not back there till November. So we're stuck getting creative.

I love this thread. I want to go to Cuba to get Cuban rum for your recipe Caribcrew.

Go to your greenhouse of choice and buy a couple of pots of Mint. take them home and plant them in a spot that gets partial sun, preferably a spot that doesn't dry out quickly.

then get some rum, some club soda and some limes, make a batch of simple syrup.

Practice until you have your own perfect mojito

I prefer mine with an amber rum, Cruzan works for me because I can't get OCD about the rum when simple syrup is added to the cocktail.

I also don't care much for the fizzies, so I tend to use a sparkling water instead of club soda-- the fizz isn't as pronounced ( just my opinion).

MMMM MMM MMMM nothing better on a hot afternoon ( not that we ever have too many of those in Maine).

We keep mint in pots since it tends to take over the garden.

Cheers, RickG

I totally understand RickG.

As far north of VA as Warren and I are, it isn't as much of an issue, and a lot shorter growing season. I've lost all my mint over-winter more times than I care to count, despite the fact that it is generally fool-proof hardy.

This is a little different, but I just had it last month at the Beach Bar in Cruz Bay. A coconut mojito, frozen. I watched the bartender, but some stuff was in unidentifiable squeeze bottles. I will be experimenting soon! Plenty of mint leaves, lime juice, slice of lime, Malibu rum, white rum, and coconut milk (?), ice. Blended. Looked kind of like pesto. Soooo good, and not too sweet. Never thought to blend up lime peel (not much).

Long layover in San Juan? Taxi to OSJ and check out Pirilo Pizza Rustica on Forteleza near Tanca. Fabulous Mojitos as well as a huge craft/import beer selection. Pizza is the best I've had in the Caribbean. Cheers!
