Anegada - How Many Nights?

Anegada - How Many Nights? - 09/10/2015 04:03 PM

Determined to finally get to Anegada on our next trip. Planning to leave from White Bay for a quick, leisurely sail there. (OK, just kidding, will undoubtedly be leaving early one morning from North Sound and arrive by say 10:30 or 11.) Wondering how many nights you like to stay, and how do you enjoy spending your days, other than the obvious renting a vehicle and hanging at the great beaches and bars and ingesting multiple lobsters? I've been looking through lots of posts, seems like one overnight is enough for many people, but I was thinking 2 nights, since we really enjoy the above activities. We'll probably have 8 or 9 nights away from Road Town, so 2 nights in Anegada will not keep us from our other required and desired stops. So how long do you typically stay and what is a typical full day there like for you?

I would stay 2 nights as our previous 1 night visits never seemed long enough to truly start relaxing.

2 nights is our usual stay. It allows time to hit Loblolly and Cow Wreck.

We normally stay 2 nights and like to do the walk on the beach from the anchorage to Cow Wreck Beach.

Anegada... it depends on the crew and in some cases the willingness to spend cash. For some on charter boats Anegada is punching a ticket on their BVI Bucket List. A point enhanced because many charter operators "forbid" travel there. At the end of the day we are talking a 12 mile sail. If your crew just needs to punch the ticket? Sail there eat dinner and move on.

On the other hand Anegada has great beaches. If part of your crew likes to toast and baste on endless beaches you could spend many days sunning on Anegada. Once you are in the anchorage at Anegada the island is basically two places for most tourist. North Side for Day, South Side for Night

The collection of small inns and restaurants closest to the anchorage that are "the place to be' at night. Then a truck ride away you can reach the preferred day lunching and sunning beach bars. After more than 100 charter boat trips. Anegada is the only place I thought I needed beach towel or encourages others to deal will the hassle of carrying them. If we land on Anegada when we arrive we send the adventure oriented ashore to explore and make dinner reservations for the group. Evening one chill, drink, eat somewhere nearby the boat. Day two head to Cow Wreck and beach, beach, beach, drink eat... Head back to the boat late afternoon when Cow Wreck winds down. Depending on crew energy and mood another big dinner ashore or dinner on the boat. We have always moved on early on day two. We also usually arrive late on the day of arrival. In my opinion you are going to say you went there unless you are chasing the unique beaches. There is also guided bonefishing? There is also unlimited diving. The downside of Anegada is the cost to do anything. You also surrender a lot of boat time with the two day stop. For some crews that can be a big plus. What does you crew enjoy doing? You can run your self in circles trying to "see" every must do spot on the island. Or you can relax and get to know one place for dinner and another for lunch. No chance am I going to try and win any arguments on which place is better? The truth is it depends on the day and hour you happen to show up and your crews expectations.

I started out with a single night on a 7 day charter, then moved to 2 nights the following year. The next year, I extended the charter to 10 days so we could spend 3 nights. Now I mostly land stay on Anegada and go for 16 or 17 days at a time.

Last week I was on a 10 day charter and still managed to fill 3 days on Anegada during low season. It's truly a great place to really relax and get into the island vibe. We spent day 1 getting a car, checking out Cow Wreck for a couple of hours, and lunching at Anegada Beach Club. Day 2 - Breakfast at Neptunes, beach/snorkeling at Flash of Beauty and beach/drinks at Loblolly. Day 3 - looked at all the closed gift shops and spent the day at closed Cow Wreck. It's awesome to have Cow Wreck all to yourself!

If you only have 2 nights, go for 2. If you can swing 3 stay longer. When you get there, you'll know if you "get Anegada" and can decide how long to stay.

Cheers,
Jason

Last spring we spent one night there. This November we're spending 2. Like others have said, there are beautiful beaches to explore and lounging around for a full afternoon at Cow Wreck would be wonderful. I don't want to feel rushed to get to the next island this time.

We're looking forward to spending two nights in May...have only been able to do one the last couple of years due to newbies on board and the need to see everything in a short period of time! Definitely no need for that this time <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />
