Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/17/2015 03:26 PM

We are two women looking for two cabins on a shared BVI cruise. Our husband don't like sailing so we would like to leave them behind!
Someone must be able to help us out....please!
Thanks and Merry Christmas to all

I have to ask how old are the two women?

Festiva Sailing Vacations and Tradewinds Cruise Club offers cabin only trips every week. You will have to do google from their sites.

Wayne....why would it matter how old we are? Okay, we are 21...now do you have something for us.

Send pics and you might get a lot of offers smile

I didn't think it would hurt or be offensive asking your age.

If you charter a boat I'll captain it for free.

Kind of sounds like Dawn has an attitude as well.....

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/17/2015 09:32 PM

Sorry if I sounded sceptical but I find it difficult to understand why more information wasn't given originally. A little information on experience/background/interests/dates they would like to visit would help a lot. We, personally, could offer two cabins for a week during our next visit, but would certainly want more original information than that given before making any approach at all. Sarcasm certainly doesn't help either, does it?

Hmmmmmm.... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

The most constructive advice I could give to Dawn would be to become a regular on the site, get to know people on the site, contribute in a meaningful way to the site, and develop trust. This doesn't happen overnight. We've had wonderful sailing trips with people we've met on this site, but none of them were with people making their first post.

Hopefully you'll hang around and become a TTOL regular and BVI junkie like many of us here! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

Wow dude. Two women want to sail. You and Wayne immediately objectify them and make it all about their age and whether they'll send pics.

And it's Dawn who has an attitude? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/18/2015 05:18 AM

It would seem to me that the majority of the brethren of boating have not yet made the transition to walking upright. Can you grasp this Harleyk.
I appreciate the responses that were pertinent to my question.
It would seem that if you are 21 and can provide pictures your chances of sailing may increase.
All this chatter, sadly irrelevant.
Hmmmmmmm, and I had the nerve to be sarcastic

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/18/2015 10:28 AM

This chatter is highly relevant. The issue is not 21 years old, fantastic body etc, it's about who you are.

There are many 21 year olds that I would not want on the boat regardless of all of physical attributes. Festiva would take most people as they are in the business and money may be more important that who you are.

For the rest of us, male or female, lots of information would be required and rightly so. There is a lot of responsibility taking people out for a week.

With respect to getting information, you should want to know a lot about who you are hitching a ride with. These attributes should include age weight health sailing experience etc as your personal safety would depend on it.

A boat is a small place. It's not a cruise ship. Everyone needs to get along well or a bad time will be had by all.

The Reply asking your age may or may not have been innocent. Your lack of experience may have led to this thread going in this direction.

Oh well.

They still have their boats and cabins and you can keep looking.

Dan take a deep breath and a chill pill. By the way how old are you?

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/18/2015 12:29 PM

Actually, my comments are tongue in cheek but if you REALLY want to be accepted on someone's personnel, private time on their vessel you might want to consider the following:

1. Appear to be grateful and helpful
2. Offer to share in all expenses.
3. Make very clear who you are, where you come from, any experience and how gracious you are to be considered.

Basically, it's an interview and you're the applicant. I don't hire within my company unless i know as much about you as possible. I certainly wouldn't allow someone on my boat for a vacation without knowing EVERYTHING about the person(s) and how these extra people would fit with the rest of my crew.

Well, good morning! and welcome aboard Dawnp. Let's dissect your post for the few knuckle draggers....I see 2 women wanting 2 cabins on a shared charter in the BVI, need help with ideas........I would think Kneafseym's recommendations of Festiva/Tradewinds are very good ones!

DorothyGale, I went to the Antlos site and there are no boats offered anywhere? have you used this group before?

Now as far as the strange questions and comments, her "attitude" changed after a couple of "smartalic" posts. I don't think her first post should have contained all of her personal info, she's not interviewing here, she was starting a conversation. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/toast.gif" alt="" />

Beerman - I just saw that the article was in Yachting Monthly today, as a possible piece of info for Dawnp.

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/18/2015 02:42 PM

Beerman - think you should re-read the chain....

Wayne asked one question about their age and Dawn shot back

"What does it matter how old we are - ok we're 21 do you have boat for us or not".

Now whose's the smartalic? Just saying.....

I like the idea of this "AirBnB" style chartering. I just went to the site again, I entered locations from the main page and nothing, but then I scrolled down and their top offerings with prices etc were there, looks interesting. Thanks for the link.

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/18/2015 02:57 PM

I'm a male, 42 years old, balding, ~15 pounds overweight with sailing experience. Please PM me if you have an available cabin and are willing to take me around the islands for free sometime (hey, never hurts to ask). Pictures available upon request.

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/18/2015 03:16 PM

Thank you to all who took the time to explain the ins and outs of how this works. I now understand. We are two 50 yr old women, in excellent health, not overweight, who are looking for a vacation to relax, snorkel and see the islands. It is not in the budget to charter the whole boat. Festiva does not have 2 cabins avail for Feb 20th/16 nor does Island Windjammers.
HarleyK, contrary to what you believe I am gracious and would be appreciative, I certainly would pay my way, AND I would be a dam good shipmate. We get along very well with others because we are respectful. If something comes up that I think is inappropriate I am going to say something. Just as Im sure you would. Im looking for a vacation not a crewjob. So let this be done now.
Merry Christmas to all!

Dawn....I caught your humor when you said 2 21 year olds and married whose husbands didnt want to sail. That being said....some comments may appear in jest and some more forthright. Hang in there....I think its a great thing you ladies want to sail with or without husbands. Stay on the site and learn more about the people here and you will come to know that too. I am sure there are options available and some good suggestions here. We just joined too so it is a great informative forum. I enjoyed this one as I thought quite funny.

Dawn - I hope ya'll find the perfect fit. Ya'll are pretty gamie for taking this on and will probably find what you're looking for on this site.

This site is great and incredibly helpful for sailing in the islands and everything in between.

TackingAG - FUNNY! You guys need a QB but maybe Kyler will head to Austin and you'll still get to watch him smile I know, I know - we need a coach.....

Dawn,
If you are still serious after all the crap you just took, look into this charter company. http://www.visailing.com/stateroom-cabin-charters.php
You can rent crewed boats by the stateroom. Call Joan, she is very helpful and won't be rude and condescending!
Good luck and do it now, it's beautiful! Enjoy!

Yup, welcome Dawn! I hope you find your cabins. I'm sure you'll have a GREAT time.

Harleyk, I'm afraid we'll need a full roster before it's all over.

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/18/2015 11:31 PM

I also thought your joke was funny, Dawn. I have been considering drafting up a profile myself and seeing if I can find an open space on a boat in 2016, as my normal crew is bowing out.

I think if you are serious about finding a spot you should sell yourself a bit harder. Everybody wants it to be a great vacation, but these trips also require a bunch of work while underway, so everyone needs to pitch in and do their part while underway so it goes smoothly.

Good luck!

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/19/2015 05:19 AM

I wish you luck. I'd say it's probably a little difficult to go this route unless you go with one of the companies that do exactly this.

Doing it privately with other individuals without having met is a far riskier endeavor. Would be easier to do if you had more time and could meet others before hand. We did this our last trip - we sailed with BEERMAN and family who we had only met on past trips. I would have been much more hesitant doing something like this having never met someone, but having met them a few times over a couple of years and communicating here..etc it was an easy choice. And it worked out great!

Re: Looking for cabin on Vessel for 1 week sail - shar - 12/19/2015 11:24 AM

Dawn... Try Jim at http://www.sailingbluemoon.com/ (a TTOL Sponsor). He does weeks where people take cabins rather than the whole boat. I know Jim well from when I also had a boat in the BVI and organised the occasional week of cabin charters for TTOL people.

Many people on the board know Jim so I'm sure you can get references.

We have a cabin only sailing going out on Yacht Promenade February 15th for ten nights (you can do 7 or ten) that has other women who have booked cabins on it, if you are still looking.
