Anegada

We are going on a 7 day bare boat vacation in May. It looks likes there are way to many places to see in 7 days. Anegada is the farthest away. Is it really worth the trip?

We enjoy Anegada. But, if it is for just one night then maybe not. The anchorage is not swimmable and you need to take a taxi to the beach. But, the beach walk to Pomato Point from Neptunes Treasure is awesome. You can keep walking as far as you like on the white sand beach. If you like long sails, the reach from Anegada to Jost is about the longest sail inside the BVIs. If you detour north a bit, we've caught a few fish out towards Kingfish Banks.

Anegada is much different than the other islands -- and in a good way. The beaches at Loblolly and Cow Wreck are amazing. You get a sense of being on a far away deserted beach. We love it there.

However, I understand your plight. To do justice to Anegada, you have to do a minimum of 2 nights there. That's a lot of time out of a 7 day trip. But if you haven't been there before, I don't think you would be unhappy if you did go !!!

Anegada is one of those places you have to go to and see if it's your king of place. It seems like most people love it and others could care less.

I went the first time for 1 night on a 7 day charter. Next 2 charters, 2 nights. Next 2 charters were extended to 10 days to have 3 nights at Anegada. Now I land stay on Anegada about 50 nights a year.

All I can say is be careful, it's addicting.

It's not really that far. Go and check it out! If you come out to Cow Wreck, wander over to the 1st house and I'll have a cold one for you.

We are doing an 8 day trip starting May 18th and plan to spend two of those days on Anegada. This is our 4th trip and have only visited there one time and can't wait to get back. We are definitely planning a lunch at Cow Wreck and I may take up the offer of a cold one put out there by Jason

Anegada is our favorite island. We've gone every trip. We dont find the time to get there a big deterrent. We leave North Sound early - about 7 am - and have found the sail to be about 3 hours. Cow Wreck and the Wonky Dog are more than enough to keep us coming back. Someday we will spend more than one night. This year we're doubling up on the north sound - book ending our trip to Anegada.

I usually do 7 day trips and always stop at Anegada...leave the north sound early, grab a ball and take a taxi or rent a car, stop at the Wonky Dog and make reservations for the best meal you will have in the BVI'S and then head to cow wreck for the day, enjoy the beach and lunch, drive to lob lolly for the rest of the afternoon! It is a fun drive, beautiful beaches and the best people anywhere! Head to dinner and be sure to try Desni's strawberry lemonade! Everyone I take there says its there favorite part of the trip!

We never miss Anegada. Our favorite island in the BVI's and some of the better restaurants. Folks make way too much about getting there. It's only 11 miles from North Sound and usually on a reach.

We've never stayed more than one night & the sail is only a couple hours from North Sound. We've encountered some heavy weather on the way there, though, so if you're uncomfortable being uncomfortable, be sure to confirm good conditions before heading out.

Someone said the anchorage isn't swimmable? I've done it every time, was there some reason I shouldn't? Planning to head out there in a few days.

In my 5 charters in the BVI I have gone to Anegada 4 times (the 5th was scrubbed because we were there in December and the swells were too high for the crew I was with). The trip from North Sound is not bad at all. Cow Wreck is probably my favorite beach in the world. We leave North Sound early, Make dinner reservations as soon as we get there (my favorite Lobster in the world too and I'm from New York City where good restaurants are plantiful) and the grab a taxi to Cow Wreck. Usually lunch there at Bell's place and after some major relaxing we head over to Loblolly for snorkeling. You can't go wrong for dinner at any of the restaurants surrounding the anchorage. I have yet to try the Wonky Dog (which is not at the anchorage) but I look forward to the chance. We usually only stay one night and usually head to JVD the next morning. Personally Anegada will always be in my float plan and one night is not a problem. Go for it!

Wonky Dog is in the anchorage. It is adjacent to whistling pines, on its east side.

We also go for one night. It's not a long sail from North sound to the Wonky Dog for the best food in the bvi.


Try the wonky dog bushwhackers. I put a video on youtube of Sherwin making them.. Search wonky dog anegada bushwacker.

Is the dance party at the Anegada Reef Hotel a nightly event, or is it only certain nights of the week? It can be a lot of fun if you are up for it but on our last trip there the music was really far louder than necessary even for a dance party. We were on a mooring, but I'm thinking of anchoring closer to Neptune's next time to avoid a direct shot. Is that the best place move hoping for slightly less noise?

Anegada is always my favorite place in bvi, specifically Cow Wreck. The solitude of leaving the mountain islands and heading out to sea. Then arriving at the beautiful out of the way island.

Has a totally different feel that i look for on my adventures in the Caribbean. Love Bell, her homemade food, hanging out at her beach.

When i leave BVI, the thing i think of the most is Anegada and wish each time that i had spent another day there. Every time there i've only spent one night, next time i'll definitely add another day.

I stand corrected! Sorry for the misinformation! As I said I have yet to try it but will definitely do so on my next trip, probably this coming May. I have had the pleasure of dining at Neptune's Treasure, Potters by the Sea and Whispering Pines. All were great in different ways. You really can't go wrong at any of them!

If ever you have a chance to go to Anegada, go. My favorite place on earth.

My favorite night in Anegada...was when we got invited to an island wedding party at the hotel. We met too many of the locals, and had a BLAST. This was one of the locals, being wedded to another local. Later found out it was the guy that has a food truck, here around the DC areas daughter was the bride...small world.

we still have many of the party favors on LUCI. And some of Tony's coozies from the same trip.
