Sage Mountain Park - 02/27/2016 08:17 PM

We likely will rent a car for a few days on Tortolla and wondered about making this a stop. Love to hike ....have hiked to the tower on JVD, all of the trails at BEYC, salt island etc. and looking for other options .

....anyone want to share their experiences ? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

it's a nice hike but don't expect any kind of a view once you reach the peak. It's totally wooden area with a small sign denoting it's the highest point in the BVI's

We're Sage Mountain fans. There are great views to be found near the parking lot. The view of Jost is great on a clear day. Its a nice hot weather spot.

Cheers, RickG

Well, it depends upon the trail that you take! Sage Mountain is huge, and there's lots of trails - many with great vistas!

Plan to spend a half day there, and get there early before the whiny cruise ship hordes arrive.

If you happen to see a 'little person' nearby, that's Roosevelt. He lives in the house just to the SE of the entrance. Please give him my regards.

In case it helps, the intersection of Ridge Road and Sage Mountain Road is at N 18° 24.892', W 64° 38.980'.

There's an observation platform (or at least there was 11 years ago) with a nice view of the SFD channel at N 18° 24.546', W 64° 39.304'.

Sage Mountain is a great hike around. As said, no flip flops, not many vistas and avoid cruisers. A very off the beaten path and I mean that literally, is Shark Bay National Park. Go to Brewers Bay, drive East out of the area, pass the rum distillery ruins and proceed past community center, up hill at first big sharp right turn is a dirt track on the left. A number of homes are built off the dirt road. Proceed until you see rickety wooden stairs on right. You will be at Shark Bay park. Up stairs and the trail is there. No parking or signage. Room for one car on the side of road. Worth the effort. Amazing views and Bat Cave. No flip flops make the effort to find this. It took us several tries

It took us several tries to find it too! So worth it in the end! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />
