Scrub Island reservations are not real reservation

Scrub Island reservations are not real reservation - 03/30/2016 04:58 PM

As a few of us found out....a reservation at Scrub is first come, first served. They over sold the marina by 10 or so. Several were turned away. Many of us had to wait 1-2 hours for our slip.
Even if you made your reservations MONTHS in advance. If a person who made a res a few days ago gets there first....first come, first served.

Wow, that is unfortunate. They've had my money since last August for an upcoming June reservation. That sure would suck to get bumped. I hope they are refunding money to those that they forced to pre-pay...

FWIW, this isn't the only marina that does this. We frequent one in Canada where you try to reserve a slip months in advance and they will give it to someone else who shows up first. REALLY annoying.

We generally treat all of these places as last-minute deals.
We really don't know where wind and fortune will take us months before our trip.

I guess my reservation for July may be for naught .. even though it is the low season, it is the night of the FMP at Trellis.

That's why we "reserved" so early too - June FMP at Trellis. Guess we will try and get there really early.

I didn't hear anyone with a reservation get turned away, only those without reservations... But you guys got there well after we did, so you would have heard a lot more of the drama over the last few slips.

When we got there for FMP last week we waited over an hour with 6 other boats to get into our slip (around noon). They would have had a lot more room & gotten more into the marina if they had alternated big boats with little boats. Their protocol of taking reservations from their FL office does NOT work; they need someone who knows something about marinas to take the marina bookings.

It then took us over an hour after ordering to get our lunch, but that's another post. Sadly we probably won't go back there for a while, they just can't get their you-know-what together. We used to love Scrub.

I've never understood the attraction of this place..thought it was just me..with so many amazing places to see and visit why go through all this for a place that belongs in Miami??

We are going to do it just for the slip ... and the free "uber" ride to/from Trellis for the FMP. Don't want any drunks getting into trouble out there with the little dinghy.

We visited once. Its shallow and bouncy. The staff were great, the other guests were quite standoffish. The food was ok, but the value was not great. The bathrooms were awesome, but, well, so is mine at home. I'm glad we popped in to give it a try, but we won't be back - unless its stinking hot and I've got menopausal crew. Anchoring in Trellis and at Marina Cay works just fine and is free.

I've never been there...I still haven't got over them tearing down Donovan's Reef to build it! Can I hold a grudge or what?

Well for one thing, if you're going to Trellis for FMP you'd be a fool to try to bring your boat into that zoo of a "parking lot" & you'd have to get there 2 days in advance.

I used to like the pool on the north beach (before they painted all the trees & rocks and erected the plywood shacks), I like the swim-up bars and the hot tub when I'm cold from the pool, & the beautiful view from the outside restaurant above the pool. I like the occasional indoor meal where there are no bugs, no wind blowing my hair into my mouth, and no dinghy ride required. I used to like the showers (don't use them anymore), and I like being on a dock. But it's obvious that all of the new investment cash is going into the villas & not the hotel/marina areas and the place is rapidly going downhill.

I very much appreciate a clean restaurant, a qualified & engaged staff, and a meal that isn't fried or buried in salt. That said, there are better options for those things than Scrub these days. My friend (a BVI newbie) said Leverick felt more upscale to her than Scrub... I thought that was a nice compliment to Leverick.

Guess I just prefer a mix of experiences on our trips. But we'll spend an extra day at Peter for our "high end" days until Scrub gets it together.

Three left on thier own, three were turned down. They tried to call one back.

Plus, my slip had three inches of clearance. With a 20 plus back wind getting in.

I stayed there once and TBH I found it disappointing. The restrooms and showers were the best anywhere I've been in BVI, but that's it. Everything else is * meh *

So did ours, (as you know! ) that was crazy! That's what I mean about better planning. They could have organized a lot better- would have been more comfortable AND gotten more boats in.
