TTOL discount at Scrub Island is back - 05/13/2016 10:29 PM

Got it last night - $1.50 per sq foot - good deal IMO, given the facilities they have. They asked me to put the word out. Enjoy!

What boat were you in? We were there the past two nights. I should have mentioned the discount in my other post. It isa good deal for the amenities. We made great use of the pool.

We were on the Moorings cat, Teekla.

Did you have to book it in advance?

I reserved a slip the day of - mentioned TTOL when I called. I didn't ask about dates - got the impression that it was until further notice. Ultimately it will depend upon how many people use it - if management feels it's bringing more people in then they'll keep it going. Yes plus electricity and water (if used).

We were on Glissade - 36 foot Cat in slip B3 - we only stayed one night - now moored at Diamond Cay.

First time visiting. Is the discount anywhere on Scrub and do you just mention TTOL?

There's only one marina on Scrub - its the Scrub island resort. You just need to mention the TTOL discount.

Ben_gale - you were right next to us then, we were in B2 the night you were there and the night prior.

Oh well, just got home today after 9 days down there. I called Scrub the day we left for the islands and the best she would do me was $2 a foot plus tax. We skipped it again this year and stayed the night at Marina Cay. Maybe I give it a shot again next year.

I read this forum and bit and I'm always a little bit amused by how people make value judgements. Don't get me wrong - I do the same - so perhaps I'm just smiling at myself.

So Scrub has a "special" which is 1.50 vs. .. what 2.50/ft? So on the average sized boat that's maybe $50. Compared to the cost of the boat/travel/etc/etc. which is many thousands. And a drink at Willy T is now how much?

Seems like if you want to go to Scrub making that plan around the availability of a discount is a little illogical.

Does anyone else find this kind of amusing or am I just being weird?

No, you are quite correct. I had a conversation with a business owner in CGB 2 or 3 years back and they commented how "the people on the charter boats are getting cheaper and cheaper". I just chuckled.

What seems logical to me is letting people spend their money (or not) how they want. Perhaps keeping costs down during the actual charter lets them be able to charter to begin with. I'm sure there's plenty of other reasons as well. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Cheers.gif" alt="" />

We would have stayed either way. $2 vs $1.50/ft was $20 for us. Based on what you get, it's really a good value either way if you'll make use of their amenities.

Im my observation there are people who's charter is basically glorified camping. They cook most meals on the boat and look not to spend money. I tend not to pinch my pennies when Im on vacation so I would say $1.50 versus $2.50 would not sway me away. I do usually avoid Peter Island though since I don't think I get enough value to justify the large expense there. To each his own! As long as everybody is in their happy place, wherever that is for them, its all good!

We stayed at Peter one night figuring it was worth it for the pool, but we stayed on a ball as I didn't feel it was worth paying more than double to be on the dock.

Re: TTOL discount at Scrub Island is back - 05/18/2016 01:00 AM

Some interesting points here. Personally I probably would still have done a night at Scrub at $2.50/ft - my crew really likes it, and we always try to make it there for the middle of our week. However, at $1.50/ft it becomes an easy decision. I do think there is some price elasticity for many charterers - I ran into a crew earlier in the week who had decided not to go to Anegada because they didn't think they could anchor there. After I had corrected that, my advice was to just to do the trip and pay $30 for a ball - it's well worth it. So I think the discount probably would be enough to change some people's thinking. Either way, the point is that if everybody out here who goes to Scrub asks for the TTOL discount, then it can only help keep it in place and save us all some money - lord knows this is an expensive addiction we all have! Happy sailing.
