Itinerary comments appreciated! - 06/14/2017 03:20 PM

Hi all, Itinerary is pretty locked down but always open to change based on weather, conditions. As always with a 7 day charter, we are struggling to figure out what destinations to leave out.
Currently we are staying one night in Leverick Bay on the slip (for Friday BBQ), the sailing up to Anegada the next day (where we are renting a truck from Dean). One day on Anegada and then where planning to head to Marina Cay via the dogs for a snorkel.
We are now thinking that we should sail back to North Sound and moor off of Saba Rock. Advantages, Saba rock is pretty cool and last year we only spent a couple of hours, close to Eustasia sound to check out some nice snorkeling. Could even rent some water toys from BEYC. Sunset cocktails off of Saba rock.
Advantages to heading to Marina Cay, never been, snorkeling at Marina Cay, snorkeling at Diamond Cay, dinghy to Trellis, Scrub Island….
Witch would you do?
Thanks T-7 days to wheels up!

Hey,
We just returned a week ago and did something similar...we moored at BEYC for an afternoon and night, then headed to Anegada for a night and came back to Leverick Bay for a space on the dock for the BBQ.
We had kids and newbie's on board and I felt like everyone needed some landtime.

You can accomplish the Dogs and the new Art Reef (Mountain Pt.) and then head to Leverick for the night.. just leave Anegada early. Enjoy!

I would never miss JVD, and Sandy Spit and Cay in particular. But - the crowds are ruining it for me, so maybe I should be quiet.

My point of view is that I don't consider Anegada on a 10 day charter or less. I would not recommend taking the dingy to Trellis from Marina Cay.

I hope no problem with another Itinerary question.
Anyone ever sail from Cooper to Anegada?
July 3 Norman
July 4 Cooper
July 5 and 6 Anegada
July 7 and 8 VG, hit the BBQ
Then July 9 Full Moon
then JVD so on.

So just wondering if that makes sense? Or Cooper to Anegada is crazy and should be dropped?

Options Options too many to choose

Cooper to Anegada would be a great sail imho...

Cooper to Anegada is great for some. Know your crew and realize that they may need more non-movement time (either snorkeling or on land). But at this time of year, morning sail with lunch stop at / near Mountain Point and get to Anegada mid-afternoon... then spend NEXT full day on Anegada with 2nd night anchored/moored.

Thanks....but just thought of one issue with this itinerary..the sail back to VG from Anegada. I think that is dead into the wind in July. Am I wrong?

I think its a reach - close or beam would depend on the wind of the day. I did it last July and had the best sail of our week...

It could be straight up wind, but that would be very rare.

I would echo the sentiment of not taking the dinghy from Marina Cay to Trellis. Its a 20 min crossing and when the winds come in off Sir Francis Drake Channel, you run the risk of being swamped. we had to anchor at Marina Cay for a Full Moon Party and planned on being later than the last shuttle so we piled into the dinghy. Not a great idea in retrospect....

I think a 'land' stop is a good idea if you have crew who are not avid or passionate sailors. I would choose BEYC over Scrub because BEYC offers more stuff to do and being on VG gives you the option of a cross island trek by car to the Baths (which you can also get from Leverick). In large swells, arriving early enough to get a mooring ball plus the dinghy ride and then a final swim to the beach can dampen (pun intended!) a visit to the Baths by boat.

One little hidden (or seldom used) gem from VG is a nice up and across the mountain hike from just behind the BEYC (at the east side of the resort). From the top you'll get an stunning view of Saba Rock and North Sound. The hike takes you close to the now closed Biras Creek Resort. Its an hour over the top but slightly less if you take the 'flat' route back that stays close to sea level.

Ive done Anegada even on a 5 day charter - for the life of me I cant understand why everyone makes it seem further than ut is?? In prevailing conditions from North Sound, it is a 3 hour trip?? Its all about choices.
I have also dinghied from MC to Trellis, but it is a wet trip. Ok during day but wouldnt do at night. Plus there is a ferry that will get u for the Last Resort!!

Thanks all for the comments;

Last year we stayed put in Leverick bay for a couple of nights on the slip. This time we are only staying the one night on a slip for the Friday night BBQ. The reason we are not staying for two nights is the family on the other boat that we are travelling with gets anxious if they are sitting around too much so we have planned an active itinerary!

Hence why we are sailing to Anegada after Leverick and then, most likely after comments submitted in this thread, back to North Sound, Saba Rock.

Middle part of itinerary is as follows
- Fri (Jun 23) - Leverick Bay on Slip
- Sat (Jun 34) - Anegada, dinner at Wonky Dog
- Sun (Jun 25) - Saba Rock
- Mon (Jun 26) - Little Jost for the day, Little Harbour dinner at Sydney's
- Tue (June 27) - early motor to White bay, pick up mooring stay the night

Then probably of to Norman and back to rd town.

Ambitious? Maybe hoping the mooring early in White bay will give captain and crew some downtime and ability to ease on the beach with some pain killer

Comments still appreciated!
For example, is staying in Diamond Cay, little Jost for the night worth it? The reason we are going to Little harbour for the night is to eat at Sydney's, Do they still do their BBQ on a Monday night? does anyone know?

Thanks!

Sailed to Anegada from the North Sound two days ago. Seventeen knot winds, SOG 8 knots. Made the 15 mile trip in a little over two hours. Yesterday, we sailed back to the Dogs for lunch, then Monkey Point, then Great Harbor. Picked up a mooring at 4:30 pm. The crew was tired, but the sailing was great.
