Two Questions: Bodysurfing & Intertubing

Two Questions: Bodysurfing & Intertubing - 07/12/2017 06:49 PM

Our family and another will be coming down at the end of July with a Moorings power cat. There will be 4 teenage boys who have the need for speed and action.

1. Can anyone recommend an island/beach with some good body surfing. We are from Socal so the boys are strong beach swimmers and are looking for waves over 3ft.

2. Do you think the dingy would go fast enough to pull an intertube that the boys would have fun? We have SUP so that won't be very exciting.

Any other suggestions other than snorkeling (Indians/Baths) & jumping off the Willy that the boys would get a kick out of?

Thanks for the recommendations

Joshia's Bay on Tortola usually has good surf action and also has a surfing school and rentals.

I have seen people standing on the SUP and using the dinghy to pull them around kind of like water skiing. Being able to do that would depend on your dinghy. If it's the standard issue 9hp model, it may not work so well.

In July it's unlikely there will be any beaches you can body surf. There simply isn't any real surf that time of year. You can pull a tube with almost anything but the normal 9 to 15hp dinghy is not going to make it that interesting. In addition it's extremely bad form to pull tubes through a anchorage or anything else for that matter.
I think you will be very surprised at much fun they have without the items you mention. I have never taken a single child down there that did not have a great time. If you want to add something interesting have them get their Scuba certification down there. Do the pool and classroom work at home before arriving.

Bitter End and Leverick Bay both have watersport rentals available.

Snorkling off Anegada (Cow Wreck or Flash of Beauty) will be much different than anywhere else in the BVI. Strong swimmers who can get out to the break over the reef will be rewarded. Not to be missed !

Have fun !

Standard dinghy will not pull a tube fast enough (if at all) for a teenage boy. I think the Water Sports Centre at Leverick Bay in the North Sound has a MasterCraft skiboat for rent, with equipment for skiers, tubers and wakeboarders. (I saw somebody's Mastercraft at the dock there in June.) I would echo the rest of what George said, and add that our grandkids, including a 15 year old, enjoyed snorkeling over the Kodiak / Krakon near Mountain Point.

Hardly any waves for body surfing in July in the BVI. BTW, the grammar police have cited you for using intertube instead of innertube in your post. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" />
