Savannah overnight

Savannah overnight - 02/10/2018 03:26 PM

Will be out next week and wind forecasts will make for spirited sailing for sure. Was planning an overnight in Savannah bay and was hoping we would have some protection as winds will be out of the east. Can someone offer opinion on comfort for my crew and how much I might have to worry about the hook. We have overnighted once before with great success but was a wind-less night.

If it was your boat, you take the chance and it's your consequences. But if it's a charter boat, be extra prudent. It's not fair to the owner, the charter company, subsequent charters etc. If something goes wrong.

Savannah bay is fine even in strong East winds. The wind will funnel through the gap however so you won’t get any protection from the wind. The anchorage will be calm. I guess it depends on how comfortable you are in your anchoring skills. I would go with 7 to 1 scope and make sure you have properly backed down and set the anchor. Do not go there if there is a north swell.
