American and Seaborne - SJU

American and Seaborne - SJU - 03/19/2019 08:29 PM

American just changed our flights in June as they are rearranging because of pulling the 737- MAX. Now we only have 45 minutes from AA gate to Seaborne.
We are code share so no bags - just straight to gate. How close is the Seaborne gate?? We do not want to wait 3 hours for the late flight. Thanks

It’s a 10 minute walk if you hustle.

We have the same change and issue on June 15th. After much discussion, and based on experience with this route on prior trips, we are not changing to the later flight. I called Seaborne and they said the gate closes 45 minutes prior to the flight, but this has not been our experience. Can someone confirm that we can walk up 30 minutes prior to the Seaborne departure (assuming our plane lands on time). The later flight currently has plenty of availability as a fallback, but I know this can change.

I can confirm we did that in October '18. Seaborne actually moved the flight up an hour cutting our layover time to 32 minutes. We got off Jet Blue Flight and found Seaborne had moved their gate closer than D and it was actually just on the other side of SJU Margaritaville (maybe B?). Our walk was 5 minutes and we got on and they were at the gate for at least 15 minutes until departure (we boarded plane so couldn't see after that).

No checked bags....

Even IC people were at gate in Feb up until we boarded...

You are welcome my friend...when we returned Seaborne had their own private immigration kiosk. Please let me know if that is still the case if you dont mind.

We went just after they moved the gate

IC is still out of terminal D at the end of the world

Another SJU oddity, in January we returned on Seaborne and used the new Customs machines. This week we came back on Cape Air and, after a very long walk past all the luggage conveyors alongside the tarmac, we went up an elevator and into the old Immigration area with the paper forms.

IC was same in February 2019. Dumped us off and then elevator and then we had usual long walk to include going through a USDA inspection station (a first). Customs did have the global entry kiosks running so didn't need paper forms....

That is why I was wondering if the private immigration kiosks are just a new and continuing Seaborne thing.

We are doing private charter in May so will have to see how that is handled.

Air Sunshine also uses the older immigration area.

Also, to reduce some of the pressure, you can check into Seaborne 24 hours before your flight. It allows you to pick seats and get a boarding pass. You will still need to check in at the gate as soon as you arrive so they can scan you passport and get an immigration form. I'll be doing exactly that in 45 minutes.

As mentioned earlier, they moved to B1 a couple months ago.

The information below is on the Seaborne website. As I mentioned in a prior post, we land 40 minutes prior to our Seaborne departure. I am fairly certain that I have seen people walk up with in this window, but this makes me a little nervous. Thoughts? I think I’ll call them and ask if they can put a note in the system.

Recommended check-in time is 2 hours and flight closes 45 minutes prior to flight departure

Steve-

they have said that for a long time on the website...as I mentioned I haven't found that to be the case in the last 3 trips with Seaborne x2 and IC 1x

if you find any info when you call please let me know but i think you will be fine.

Are these separate tickets or are both flights on one ticket? If the latter, then I wouldn’t worry, because they are allowing time for security, baggage handling, etc. If separate tickets, then the idea of checking in online sounds good.

Same ticket! But I like the idea of checking in online too.

I flew with Seaborne last week and they were too busy with other flights to check anyone in for Tortola until about 60 minutes before the flight. I had checked in the day before and it appears to have worked because I was assigned the seat I chose when I checked in.
