SJU to EIS Connections

SJU to EIS Connections - 02/06/2021 05:41 PM

We're Delta fliers. Delta code shares with Silver but won't do a straight ticket as there is a 56 minute connection between our arriving flight in SJU and the departing flight on Silver (they have a 1 hour rule for international connections). Delta and Silver are within 5-6 gates of each other at SJU (Terminal B). Is it safe to book these separately if we carry on? Saves $400+ per person vs the Cape Air fares.

Aren't you going to have to go out of the secured area to check in again? That makes your plan dicey. Did you look into flying through STT?

Silver is about as reliable as Intercaribbean — buyer beware.

That said, we have had successful flight experiences with both but I have been hearing some BAD reports for Intercaribbean as of late...makes me worry about our June flights. Might cancel and rebook into St Thomas since ferries will likely be up and going by then....

Ah - I didn't think of the check in again scenario. So used to straight tickets. Drat.

Don't know your travel arrangements, but I'm seeing one-way flights on United from Detroit to EIS in March for under $200. Flexibility may be the key here!

Contact Silver. I think we have actually been able to get our tickets at the gate when carrying on.

Thanks for the United tip. I have expiring flight credits to use on DL and high medallion status therefore was hoping to fly them (along with those blocked middle seats through end of March), but will check out the dates and rates.

Can you buy separate one-way flights? Check business class, which provides more separation. Call Delta instead of booking on line. Creativity is your friend.

RW- I have been all over the creativity spectrum with this one - lol. Just got off the phone with Delta. They won't book it, even with lots of encouragement. wink

We will likely fly into STT and take Cape into EIS - at least Cape's available STT-EIS tickets are refundable (unlike the SJU-EIS leg on my travel date) if the seaports open. Thanks for the hints and encouragement. Appreciate it smile

If anyone needs to fly STT to EIS tomorrow we have a few open seats on our Island Birds charter... around 3 pm.

I do it all the time with carry on bag and a short connection. You can check in online but just walk straight to the gate and they will act like you've not checked in and will give you a boarding pass right there. No need to leave the secured area. I usually get my boarding pass and then sit at the wine bar across from Margaritaville and wait for them to start boarding.
