Testing

Testing - 09/23/2021 05:42 PM

Hi,
Where on Tortola can the PCR test be taken ? It appears that the USVI only allows results to be with 3 days of travel, is the turnaround time for the test that quick. ? It would seem almost impossible to get the test, post the results to the portal for reentry and have it approved ? Does anyone have any experience with this, headed down 11/6

It is actually 48 hours not 72 for travel from BVI to USVI. We are planning on using the Binax Now proctored through eMed tests that we will bring with us.

Hey Sailors :-)
Has anyone successfully used the Binax Proctored test?
Does anyone know if it can be purchased while on Tortola?

I have heard of people using it with no problem but Lynette Harrigan just told me it is not accepted by either BVI for entry or USVI for entry. I have contacted the USVI department of tourism to get more information on their end but probably won't use it for entry into the BVI (even though it has worked for others) this time.

Yes for entry to PR.

I was also approved for entry to BVI. It has to be the proctored Binax test because only that one comes from a CLIA lab.

We used the proctored test this past Wednesday for our flight from Beef Island to PR. Sat in our cat at Diamond Cay (we were the only ones there for two nights), and got on immediately with the proctor. You do the test with them watching, and need to stay on line for 15 minutes while the test kit does its magic. They come back and look at the sample, and 5 minutes later we got an email, and the results were posted to our NAVICA app.

We showed that to Silver Air on departure from Beef, and that was that.

It’s my understanding you need to register your account with NAVICA prior to leaving the US, which is what we did.

Don’t know if you can buy the test kits in the BVI…

Thank you all for the information. We are going to bring the test kits, but if needed is there anywhere on the island, med center, Dr's office that administers the rapid test. ? Always like to have back up plan

Tom

No need to register your account prior to leaving the US, but also no reason to wait.

So what has the turn around time been for testing, say on Tortola? If we need results within 48 hours of travel to the USVI, that would be testing on Saturday to depart Monday?

We were down a few weeks ago and on a Friday we went to Penns Clinic on Tortola (we were mooring at Cane Garden Bay and took a taxi) Our appointment was at 9 am, we had our results by 11 am and by 1 pm Friday we had the USVI portal completed and approved so the rest of Friday and Saturday was stress free for our Sunday departure.
We're going back down in 4 weeks. This time I'm going to try the self test.

Re: Testing - 09/28/2021 04:10 PM

Update to my post above. I emailed the USVI Department of Tourism about the ability to do the Binax Now proctored through eMed and this was their answer...

Negative results from at-home COVID-19 tests may be submitted to the USVI Travel Screening Portal (www.usvitravelportal.com) if accompanied by a verifiable lab analysis and/or report from a CLIA-certified facility. A photograph of the test result is not acceptable for entry.

The Binax Now eMed does provide this lab report via email. We will be using this for our departure to USVI from BVI on November 28th.

I'm sorry to be a pest. Is there anyone who does testing on a Saturday? And if we were to do the Binax Now test, how do you get results printed out if they won't accept one on your phone? ( I apologize..I'm tech challenged !)

You will have the same printing issue with any test.

Ask about printing where you're staying. I printed test results and approval letters for our guests before they left.

In August, I forwarded the pdfs to the office at TMM and they printed them for us - took a couple of tries, but we got it! I'm sure whoever you are chartering with will do it for you. It shouldn't be the first time the problem has occurred!

Good luck!

We don't own a printer. In June we got tested at the hospital and just showed their email to the Cape Air desk person.
