Fishing from MarineMax charter boat

Fishing from MarineMax charter boat - 02/22/2022 07:46 PM

So we used Marine Max 4 years ago and I got a fishing license and leisurely fished off the boat a few evenings. We have a charter scheduled for April 2-9 and I just emailed MarineMax about getting my fishing license again and she said their boats are no longer registered for fishing.
All 3 teenage boys got travel spinning rod and reels for Christmas and are excited about fishing while moored at night or taking the dinghy to the beach.

All the boys are 16 or less.
Can they still fish from the dinghy and from the beach?

Thanks,
Bill

Hi Bill, We've just discovered the same thing. Have you found any additional information? I'm bothered that MarineMax didnt indicate this, especially since their site indicates you can have fishing equipment delivered to the boat.

We have the same issue with Dream. We have 5 kids under the age of 15 who wanted to fish every day. It wasn’t disclosed that the boats aren’t fishing registered until we asked. Frustrating!

I see no reason they can’t fish from the dinghy or beach if licensed.

According to MarineMax and others, they cant even fish from the dinghy or a kayak. The can only fish from the dock and beaches. It is very frustrating.

The problem might not be Marine Max. The turnaround time on licensing a boat to fish is currently atrocious. It’s mired in bureaucratic BS. The BVI when it decided to require licenses basically cut and pasted commercial fishing rules aimed at trawlers and factory ships.

Likely similar to the issues with "commercial vessel" requirements that recently crippled the charter fleet.

I realize this topic is old, but Marinemax does allow fishing now. You must purchase licenses separately beforehand.

Found out this weekend at Annapolis boat show that Moorings is getting licenses for their monohulls now.
They were only licensing the catamarans.
