SJU Hotel - 07/19/2022 03:00 PM

I tried search and did not see a recent answer. What hotel do you recommend for a one-night stay before a flight out of SJU? Thanks!

We like staying at the Embassy Suites in Isla Verde. Short cab ride to airport. They have a free happy hour and a great breakfast. They are also close to Metropol, one of our favorite restaurants. For a quick stay we have stayed in the airport hotel which is not fancy but easily accessible.

Ahoy Capt. Rick,

The San Juan Airport Hotel is popular and practical -

Numerous hotels in the Isla Verde area and taxis are about $20 and 10 Minutes each way.
And there is a 'Dennys' within walking distance of most of the hotels that is open 24/7 from 6 AM to Midnight.

If you have a little time, El Convento in Old San Juan is fabulous.

Really depends on how much time. We've typically stayed at the airport hotel when arriving late (midnight-2am) just to get some sleep before our flight the next morning. We fly down Thursday and we're arriving before 7pm so we're going to stay at the Embassy suites by the airport. On our return, we get in around 1pm and originally had a 7pm flight that kept getting switched ending in a red eye leaving just after 12am that night. We changed to leave 6am 36 hours later and saved $600 so we're spending two nights the Hyatt regency which sounds great from what family have said. Just used points to book too.

I stay at the Sheraton Old San Juan. It's a farther taxi ($30/2 passengers) but once there, lots of great dining options in walking distance. Can't recommend La Casita enough for local food and drink. 5 minutes walking from the Sheraton...

We used Uber from Airport to a little family style hotel called Hotel Villa del Sol. No frills but good for a night, 2mi from airport; took 5 minutes was under $150. Able walk to several local restaurants right around the corner for dinner or bkfst, nice quiet courtyard with pool. Uber was $12. Could hear the planes though but slept through it. We stayed at the airport hotel one time and it was a nightmare the AC was controlled by the Airport and we froze to death and had a room that was like a dungeon.

We stayed at the airport hotel this past March…..we have stayed several times over the years….but we said…never again….it was depressing and the walk from the hotel to check in, within the terminal, had many homeless people. Sad, but I felt uncomfortable. We will taxi to a close hotel next time…unless you get in at 11 and out at 6, then I would spend the extra time and money . Have never said that before, but we were not happy.

We stay at the Hampton Inn in Isla Verde. They have happy hour and a nice pool area. It is walking distance to many restaurants.

I looked at the Hampton Inn and it comes in close to the Airport Hotel on price. They both charge a ridiculous resort fee!

We've stayed at the Vanderbilt Condado several times. Pricey but fabulous. This last May we actually stayed two nights there before flying to EIS. I've also heard great reviews for El Convento and the Sheraton both in Old Town to add to mentions by Jason and MIDiver above. Sadly, it sounds like future trips down will be thru STT as the air service from PR to EIS seems to be going thru some rough times.

Here's a tip to avoid the resort fees. Look at using points. With Hilton you can typically buy points at 1/2 cent per point when they have their 100% bonus deal, which they have often. Doesn't make sense for the hampton as it is under $300 for a 60k point stay. But the embassy suite nearby is over $300. Buy the necessary points for $300 and you are spending just a little more then the hampton and getting a suite and by the looks of it they have a better pool too. We did this for our stay tomorrow night and opted for the ES for exactly those reasons.

I agree! It is not for budget minded traveler but it is an absolute delight. There is a small roof top pool and the manager's cocktail hour is a fantastic perk - good quality snacks, wines and liquors. It has been our go-to stopover on the way to the VIs. Its like a mini vacation before vacation.
