bad weather? - 04/28/2024 11:21 PM

taking a charter on friday, may 3rd for 5 nights. someone brought to my attention that cloud cover for our whole trip and reading another thread on here about weather being weird for this time of year. Do you think we are going to have a fluky 5 days of clouds and no sun and choppy? We will have a captain out of the moorings but don't know what or how to look for these types of things beforehand, what do you all think for May 3rd until May 9th? Any thoughts would be appreciated, couple on our boat are looking forward to diving and the rest of us snorkeling, hope not, Thanks

It’s too far out to tell. Wait until 3 days prior. The current forecast just looks like the generic they seem to always use. The winds are on the lighter side which is good for snorkeling and diving.

The forecast that I am seeing now on Sailflow looks like the weather beginning on Friday will be excellent. Sailflow has been my most reliable weather forecast website.

Sounds good thank you, sitting on stt tarmac now for over 15 mins lots of construction was told and having to wait for spots to open up, so be careful if your timelines are going to be tight

Ratman is on island. He says it was very overcast this morning. The house is now in a cloud, to the point he can hear water going into the cistern.

Today was blustery and had some rain, but nothing prolonged. We just returned to the Moorings base.

The important thing is to always keep in mind that itineraries need to be flexible and take into account the conditions of the moment and in your immediate location.

I saw several charter boats out today that did not look like they were doing that... pounding and plunging through the waves or carrying too much sail.

Sometimes staying put for a day is the wisest choice rather than fulfill some preconceived itinerary.

We came in the 25th. It has been more or less cloudy with some periods of sun as well as rain each day (1 hour to several hours of rain each day). We haven’t had this much cloud cover and rainfall since the last week of Oct. (which was a complete washout) but what can you do?

We arrived May 1st. Stayed with a local friend who said that the weather had been very weird with lots of rain .

Cisterns full and everything is lush and green….greener than I have experienced .

She lives on top of the hill overlooking Josiah Bay. Blustery and rain all night.
One of those “ so glad I am not doing anchor watch on my boat “ kinda nights.

Been cloudy and rainy off and on since we got here, with sunny breaks too. Mixed bag for sure ….but a cloudy day in vacation in BVI beats any day at home in Easten Canada where we still get minus temps at night .
Here til June so really don’t mind a few overcast days .

But it’s still as gorgeous as ever smile
