Custom Fees via boat USVI to BVI - 05/24/2014 11:24 PM

Looking for daysails from St John to BVI and they all are charging $40 custom fees?
Never remember that when on a ferry? or is it something specific to the charter industry??

It's called a convenience fee, one day customs is a few bucks. The water taxis do it too.

It also pays them for making and filing the NOAD both ways. For a head boat that is plenty time consuming.

e-Noad. Electronic Notice of Arrival and Departure. If paying guests are on board boats are required to access a federal website and enter name, dob and passport number of each passenger and crew. There are a few other fields which need to be entered as well. Required when leaving and re-entering US waters from BVI.

Pam, are you saying BVI now has electronic check in? or is this just for commercial boats?

No the US has online clearance out for commercial boats have had for a long time. They are required to enter the info the day before they leave to make sure your not smuggling anyone out of the country. Most of the day boats charge a flat fee to handle customs on both ends fees and the labor associated with handling customs.
